Brave's Leo has managed to go from bad to worthless garbage.
It used to provide me with a list of titles for academic papers related to a particular subject. A list of titles, not the actual paper. I understood why it didn't just give entire papers, but it was a fast way of figuring out specific papers to go locate (sometimes).
Now it just cites copyright and gives me a list of popular websites to search on my own. Fucking great, but that makes the AI completely useless. I was always free to go to individual publishers to search their websites, but that takes a lot more time.
Giving me the names of papers and authors isn't a violation of copyright anymore than suggesting a list of movies would be.
Who the fuck is steering the ship with these things and what makes them think it's worth paying for?
I don't even need a fancy checker that verifies what I've entered. Just a fucking line of text at least telling me what your requirements are. Too many modern websites completely fail at this and it makes no sense in 2024. This isn't 1999 where every password is ilovecats ffs

I always thought the goal was to remove centralized control of money, not to prevent states from having anything at all to do with money or the use of it. That is goofy.

There is a problem with people defining their terms as well. "Separation of money and state" can obviously mean multiple things and people should always define terms when discussing philosophical, political, legal, or similar topics.
I never got into Bitcoin thinking that only an approved group of purists would use it.
But, I also don't know what he means here because it's vague.
In what sense? Commution of his sentence has been a public Trump campaign promise for months. As to whether it will really happen remains to be seen after the inauguration on January 20. The promise was "on day one," I've made the allowance for January 21 in my own expectations. Processing can take time (I'm not sure of the amount), but I expect the order to be made on day one and for the release to happen soon after.
If not, the entire Trump family line is dead to me. The entire name lives or dies with this promise. Maybe that's unfair but I don't give a fuck.
I was referring to basing your financial decisions on the actions of Trump. I don't care what they buy or how. Just think it's pathetic for Trump's actions to be the extent to which a grown man learns and makes choices.

They aren't any higher than the last election that Biden won. About one third actually. It's hardly what I'd call sketchy given the context. The US has a lot of voters that are pretty easy to flip and plenty more who probably weren't happy with the last four years. People tend to vote for inflationary policies but against the consequences (or the proxy for them, which is often the president). This election wasn't as close as I expected, but certainly not so far apart to be sketchy.
Options for First Woman President:
1. Hillary Clinton ❌
2. Kamala Harris ❌
SeXiSm ✅
Has to be sexism because some ism is the only possible reason Democrats can ever lose.
On the flip side, this actually enables people like Trump to win. I didn't want to vote for that fuck. I'm pissed that I had to stand there and look at a ballot that made me think he was my best option (I was thinking of Ross and the possibility of a smidge less targeting of Bitcoin, nothing else appealed to me).
They'd probably end up with a lot fewer detestable opponents if they'd stop letting equally detestable people steer their ship. Trump is a backlash candidate in my opinion. A lot of the country is sick of being alienated and treated as sub-human for not going along with the woke policy of the week. We're letting like 5-10% of the population completely control the show.
This is victim blaming. Robbing me less doesn't make out of control spending my fault. Spending, by the way, that is mostly social programs for people who aren't wealthy. Something like 37% of taxes collected come from 1% of Americans. But yeah, it's their fault.
The biggest financial enemy of the middle class is their own spending. You could cut their tax rate to zero and they'd just buy bigger houses, newer cars, and a camper or some other shit they put on credit because they can't afford it.
You could tax the wealthy at 100% and still not keep this ship afloat. Scapegoating wealthy people and lionizing the poor and middle class is a tired and pathetic story.
The most devastating part of planning which browser I will move to has been the realization that Firefox Containers doesn't seem to have an equivalent. That has been probably the greatest browser feature I've ever used.

Been there. It's bloated Chromium with a shitcoin baked in, but I did enjoy how they do browser syncing. That's about it. Their search engine has gotten pretty good though. I use that a lot.
I'm suspicious that Firefox is going to die fairly soon. I wonder what will happen to Tor. Maybe they will continue developing the browser along with some of the other forks.
I hope that the browser gets back to its roots and does some things even better than before.

Why do cloud storage providers feel the need to add chat? Where did this come from? I'd rather have the ability to sync calendar/contacts and web browser bookmarks (easily, I know there are ways) so I can finally ditch the awful nightmare called Nextcloud.
I've never thought how cool it would be to chat with people in my cloud storage app.
Finally, a reasonable perspective.
I'd add that developers should also make sure basic features actually work before piling more on. I'm not sure if this applies to this client, but it does to the ones I've used on Android.

Switching back to day shift after 2.5 years of night shift really sucks (I never flipped back and forth, even during my off time). It's amazing how many systems are affected by sleep patterns. My digestive system is even chaotic.
The feeling reminds me of quickly reversing the stir direction in a pot of water.
I don't have issues sleeping. My body just doesn't feel like it slept and still wants to sleep during the day. There's really no way to avoid the shock. Just takes a bit to adjust. It took me about a month to fully adjust when I did this in the past. Certainly not as easy now that I'm older lol
A part of me (a microscopic part) is considering a Truth Social account just to keep reminding Trump of his promise to #FreeRoss.
I'm not delusional. He doesn't understand Bitcoin nor does he care about Ross. But I don't consider this issue solved yet.
I think a 'micro win' strategy is the best chance we have with politics and government as it is.
It makes sense in my mind to cause just enough chaos that they keep giving us our way, and even if on relatively small issues. Eventually, we may wake up having made significant progress.
They would have been smart to do this before the election to take away every vote they could.
But they were arrogant and didn't bother listening.
But 'smart' is not an accusation I make lightly when it comes to most politicians.

I'll give a grace period of January 21. That's the latest I accept as day one.

I don't think the average Biden voter really cared. They would've voted for a potato. It was clear to me before the election that he essentially was a potato. Not seeing that was willful ignorance.
Cigar lovers know how much this sucks 😂

He doesn't have to care to fulfill the promise. No politician actually cares about every issue possible, and neither do you. I don't even care if he doesn't care as long as he actually keeps his word. That's what actually matters.
You won't see this often, but I'm about to defend politicians (sort of).
There are scumbag politicians just like any other position, career, etc. I am also speaking from a US perspective. That's out of the way.
I think there are many politicians who went into politics with good intentions (even if their goals would have bad results if accomplished), but were ultimately shredded by the meat grinder.
There are hundreds of millions of us with at least dozens of high level concerns that politicians are expected to address and/or care about.
I don't intimately follow every single social, economic, financial (etc) issue that one could follow. I can't. It's impossible to care deeply about every single topic, yet most of us expect that of politicians. We get angry when they brush over our very important issues (THE issues).
Frankly, no person can reasonably manage the government we have now. Even our presidents, arguably the most powerful people in government, have a very small view of what is actually happening in the government. Our Congress can't reasonably keep an eye on what the other branches are doing. The state is so absolutely massive that checks and balances only have a hope in hell of working a very small percentage of the time.
Our government structure is quite wonderfully designed... IF the state is as small as it should be.
We expect our politicians to intimately care about and understand hundreds of incredibly complex issues when we can't even do that ourselves.
The only rational path forward I see is to remove government from almost every aspect of life so political leaders can focus on the few things government actually should be doing (national defense, a justice system, etc). Even our judges can't keep up with all the nonsense, which frequently leads to contradictions and unjust outcomes. Nothing is working right because it's all too large and complicated.
Expansion seems to always lead to corruption, probably because the thing becomes too large to actually monitor and maintain. It becomes too easy for crooks to embed themselves in the shadows cast by a massive machine with far too many moving parts.
Our politicians seem inadequate because they are. And so are we. No one is adequate for the job and never will be as things are.
WE are the problem for expecting government to deal with every issue that we face.
My point is that your point of view isn't going to lead to a good politician if that's how you're voting. A good politician would have an agenda and wouldn't be altruistic (it's an awful philosophy), in my opinion. Whether or not you agree with the agenda is a different matter and would be the bit that makes it politics. Otherwise, you'd be voting for nothing at all.
I'm finishing up an AI course for my Computer Science program.
One of the main takeaways for me has been that AI is the latest victim of the VC hype pump and dump machine.
There are many wonderful advancements being made (over many years) that have been completely overshadowed by the unrealistic promises made to pump valuations.
This recycled VC scam hurts real fields of study and probably sets them back years.
It's quite incredible how pretty much everything is killing me and simultaneously reducing my risk for things that will kill me.
There's some bright eyed fuck peddling both angles for seemingly everything we consume.
Information overload is probably why anxiety disorders have exploded.
That's what I thought last night during my 12 hour shift in the emergency department. I was exhausted and got to watch the clock go back an hour for my effort.
Getting rich quickly should be the goal. Having the nicest wheelchair in the nursing home is cool and all, but does nothing for me in my best years.
Getting rich EASY is the dangerous expectation. Mark Zuckerberg, for example, got rich quickly. But that doesn't mean it was easy.
That is literally not fucking true. They could each hold their own keys, one could, two could. There are a lot more than one single way for keys to be managed. And I think it's retarded to delegate key management for an entire family to a single person. At least a single key. A multisig setup would be better, but still far from the ONLY way.
Think a little. It won't kill you.
Some people like to conveniently ignore that this means the network as a whole is more efficient than fiat systems. I'm guessing that translates over to climate issues as well. People forget that banks, corporate offices, POS terminals, etc use a ton of energy and other resources.
