One of the best ways to grow nostr is to invent a new behavior instead of just cloning existing behaviors. What can we do with nostr that can’t be done without it?
+ bring-your-own-algo
+ bitcoin/ln payments
+ interop experiences
I, for one, am using AI to build a new social app behavior (centralized cuz it’s easier to start), but if it turns out to be useful we should quickly clone it for nostr.
You can learn about good companies/services from word-of-mouth and friends. Certainly a better system if there is more organic sharing and trickier to game/optimize. Ask out loud if you need something. Notice what people love so much they can’t stop talking about to learn about things you didn’t know you need.
software is infinitely scalable and costless for the marginal user/beneficiary. I think that’s why it’s the first place we see this.
Would be nice to do it with open source organizations… and I do think we’ll get there… including open source organization of society (what today we call “government”). But people’s time is not scalable/“costless” like software so I suspect it’ll take success in very specific categories to show us the way to do this with organizations.
what’s an argument you feel quite certain about, but are willing to steelman the opposition anyway to see what you might discover?
i’ve done some private writing about “Steelmanning Ethereum”, but haven’t shared it publicly yet
max has been hosting me at his sauna spot lately and i’ve fallen hard for it
we also interrupt our sessions with brief plunges in the cold water of the San Francisco bay
looking forward to the update. i’d like to read more detail on something like a “buyers guide”. what to look for in a kit, are certain brands to be considered or avoided, etc.
I’m going to reboot the podcast
I find the most interesting part of podcasting is just meeting and spending more time with interesting people
Instead of being “about nostr” I want to broaden the topic to whatever I happen to be curious about at the moment
Obviously nostr plays a strong role in that curiosity as does bitcoin, but also general tech optimism and what people are building, and the broader tech ecosystem around San Francisco
Send me ideas of people who may be interesting to meet/host
I had never looked at how futures traders estimated the probabilities of FED interest rate targets far in the future. This is basically a prediction market.
CME shows data from traders which suggests greater than 50% chance that target rates end up below 3% at Dec 10, 2025 meeting.
I have never followed this stuff closely. Anyone have more color to add on how to think about this?
