JRR Tolkien is out there naming two entirely different characters Sauron and Saruman and I'm telling myself I can't have two names starting with the same letter in one book.
Well, I made it through Covid relatively unscathed thanks to Paxlovid but now I've developed a nasty sinus infection. Not all that surprising. Back in the Before Times, whenever I got knocked with whatever viral upper respiratory crud was going around, I'd often develop a secondary bacterial sinus infection. Still, I feel like garbage and I can't breathe. Boo.
@4b13d910@4589908c Love it, especially this part: “100% of women want to have sex with a man who embodies the fox version of Robin Hood from the cartoon Robin Hood, but most do not actually want to have sex with a fox or a man dressed as one.” 10000% accurate.
It’s raining in NYC AGAIN. This is Waterworld, isn’t it? We live in Waterworld now. Brb fashioning myself a chic post-apocalyptic outfit out of fishing net and old pool noodles.
As Kameron Hurley said on bluesky: "A tech startup worth millions remixing and monetizing my work without permission or compensation while I, the author, have to work two jobs to afford health insurance and pay off my medical debt is peak capitalism."

@4b13d910 Having been plagiarized before, I've looked into it. To go after someone for copyright infringement means a case in federal court and an estimated $50K in legal fees. At least, that's what we were quoted.
Author folks, a paywall-free link to the searchable Books3 database has been shared on bluesky. A whole lot of writer friends are finding out their copyright-protected books were used to train the AI models now trying to replace us. Go check if yours were. https://full-stack-search-prod.vercel.app/?search=
Just because I had to type it out and I'm currently learning numbers in another language, you know what's a fucked up English word? Twelfth. That's some Year 1000 Dark Ages shit. Twelfth should have departed the earth when we stopped naming kids Aelfric.
I'm covid-quarantining in my daughter's bedroom, because it's at the back of the house and far away from my husband. The window is open onto all the neighbors' backyards. The weather is absolutely gorgeous and someone has a radio outside playing old 90s radio hits. Honestly, aside from the covid part, this pretty much rocks.
I'm not sure which part is the most outrageous. That Boebert was taking photos and vaping during a performance, or that she was giving her date a hand job, or that the date in question is a Democrat. I can't wait until she loses the next election and fades into obscurity where she belongs.
That last post about Covid boosters reminds me of another invaluable thing we lost with the collapse of twitter. In the early days of vaxx availability, it was almost impossible to get an appointment anywhere in New York. Turbovax (Huge Ma) created a bot that would post available slots all over NYC as soon as they opened up. I got my appointment for my first vaxx through twitter.
He was a really smart guy, very nice and full of interesting conversation. When humans eventually land on Mars it’ll be partially thanks to his work. He was an aerospace engineer and the manned mission to Mars has been his project for the past decade.
Lol. Watching the clip of Mehdi Hasan skewering Ramaswamy and that shit is hysterical. Ramaswamy’s talking a mile a minute trying to tap dance around his denouncement of Trump.
I'm watching stuff in #hungarian on Netflix, with English subtitles, to expose myself to more of the language. I started out with The Witcher, but there are too many made-up words in that when you already don't know the language well. Lol. Switched to Enola Holmes. It's "old-timey" so the language is more formal. Right now I catch words, but not sentences, if that makes sense.
We don’t have cable so I’m watching the 11pm news on ABC and they are going ballistic over this. Reading lines from the indictment out loud on the news, breaking down why it’s not “free speech” or “hardball politics”. Making a very clear case that it was widespread criminal activity. Very little both-sides-ing happening, at least where im watching.
And of all the places to hatch this dumb plan, Coffee County. It went 70% for Trump, without any vote tampering. Like, let's just play along with the story they were planning to put forth, that Dems were tampering with the vote to throw the election to Biden. WHY WOULD DEMS PICK COFFEE COUNTY?? We'd pick a goddamned swing district where switching a few hundred votes might conceivably make a difference.
I'm looking for Hungarians posting in #Hungarian to follow. I'm learning the language and I'm finding it's really helpful to expose myself to it as much as possible. Any reccs?
@dbd17de6 I was the younger sibling, so....accurate. Also, my grandma and uncles would send me in to mix their drinks. "Pour this much whisky and this much water for grandma." I was tending bar at eight.
@8c88caf4 Same. The first day I felt fine, except I wa SO TIRED. Developed a scratchy throat that night and tested positive. The Paxlovid pretty much wiped it out but now I have this nasty sinus infection instead.
