Are you old enough to fondly remember how Silicon Valley parents were hiring teachers and nannies...
@c3f6e3f1 FWIW, I make Mandarin learning apps and our sales are up double digits YOY (without a price increase or any other driver besides demand); demand for that seems to be picking up greatly post-zero-COVID.
Obviously they’re all going to go to trump to get his blessing and in the end he will decide to...
@d23fc1b0 I think the real lesson of today is that Trump is much more concerned about the disposition of a couple of run-down skyscrapers than about who the Speaker of the House is.
@c3f6e3f1 Eh, Humane had a similarly strong pedigree and look how that turned out. “AI Hardware” = pick a form factor Apple doesn’t do yet and stick a voice interface in it.
 @e7f76f0d Interesting, thanks!

(I wonder if the inventor that loses out in a case like this would ever have a claim against the USPTO?)
@c8565328 If you've got a suitable team for this, make sure to check out an escape room - Budapest is where the concept was invented (or at least perfected) and they punch WAY above their weight, staggering # of amazing + English-friendly rooms.

For restaurants, Rosenstein (Hungarian-Jewish) is wonderful, probably the best in the city.

Also if you've never tried Dobos Torte you should - Gerbeaud has the most famous one (and it's quite nice) but they're available all over.
@e7f76f0d Didn’t they used to organize things so that big round patent numbers would be associated with particularly notable patents? (I think I remember Palm e.g. having a many-zero’ed number for HotSync, though maybe that was just a coincidence)

@c3f6e3f1 @267a05cc I suspect they still fly them in last-minute, they just attach labels to them in the US instead of in China.

I wonder whether the Ukraine war impacted this any - I think they used to route them through Alaska, but if you can't fly over Russia then I don't know if that still make any sense distance/fuel-wise (so maybe moving to a different hub affected their logistics in other ways)?
what's the best way to launch a personal blog in 2023 with the lowest odds that anyone who isn't ...
@ca5977db Basically anybody offering WordPress hosting - I used to use Dreamhost but haven’t checked on them in years - as long as you control your domain name (preferably register it at a totally different place) and they haven’t somehow blocked you from exporting your WordPress data.

As long as you control the domain name and the data, it should never be a problem to bring it to another host, or even to your own EC2/Azure/whatever instance.
@e2cf63ec Enjoying the sights of Grand Teton, no doubt
I just saw a headline proclaiming that Wired magazine has mattress reviews. GMAFB.

I blame Wire...
@f8d9bc1c By all rights. mattresses should have gotten cheap and generic as soon as they figured out how to pack them small enough to ship as a regular UPS package instead of needing a special store / delivery truck.

The amount of graft and outright lying required to maintain the fiction that anybody needs to pay $1000 for a mattress is undoubtedly staggering, and so there’s plenty of it for anybody willing to put their reputation behind a particular brand.
