I just saw a headline proclaiming that Wired magazine has mattress reviews. GMAFB.

I blame Wirecutter for this idiotic trend where publications with great expertise in one area branch out into fields where there's no obvious reason for trusting them.
@f8d9bc1c then again do you really trust those who currently do mattress reviews? The whole industry is a complete scam designed to support huge profit margins trading off largely similar if not actually identical products.

I would not be at all surprised if many reviewers are just in bed with the mattress industry [pun intended].
@f8d9bc1c I just picked up a copy of Wired at the newsstand, it was ~50 pages thick. The mighty have fallen hard.
@f8d9bc1c Wirecutter is even worse than a lack of expertise. They don't even test many of the products in their supposed reviews. I would respect them so much more than the "not at all" I currently do if they did simple testing based on the advice of experts.
@f8d9bc1c By all rights. mattresses should have gotten cheap and generic as soon as they figured out how to pack them small enough to ship as a regular UPS package instead of needing a special store / delivery truck.

The amount of graft and outright lying required to maintain the fiction that anybody needs to pay $1000 for a mattress is undoubtedly staggering, and so there’s plenty of it for anybody willing to put their reputation behind a particular brand.
