Just looking back at pics of Nashville during the Bitcoin Conference. What a city! This was my first time there and it was better than I imagined it to be. https://image.nostr.build/8471c4bf6ec45612485b5d259544a6e1f67bb999333e14e6ce3cae379505b382.jpg
Fantastic work. I’ve been listening to your show only recently but it’s become one of my top go-to’s.
While human achievement can be passed on through the generations, human experience cannot. This is why we have better stuff as time goes on. But no one else can experience your first kiss, your first heartbreak, your first paycheck, for you. Remember that.
Short and punchy. More of this is needed to help get corporates onboard. nostr:note1lvww9m68z5xnq8z9ed8kegtl35zf796hg43hxjd5gxs30psu24hqgvkprt

The new Umbrel Home is running. I moved over from my old Raspiberry Pi as I was running out of storage. The migration assistance is amazing. It probably took 2 clicks and 2hrs later the Home had taken over. @umbrel rocks. The Pi was great, now it’s moved onto a new life as a stand for my daughter’s Disney princess. https://image.nostr.build/ef8703edd40d9c3f82f7d5ffec3dd82e954e473bc42db60614e6242e2533296e.jpg

Beating the S&P500 is the goal of many investors. However this leads to taking higher risks. Now you keep 95% in the S&P and 5% in Bitcoin and achieve the same. Well worth a look.

Instead of creating new laws, can we not just look to the existing one that’s causing a problem and remove it. At the very least it can be amended. This obsession with increases bureaucracy is ridiculous.

I’m a visual guy myself. Design and art is primo. I buy books (and cd’s) based on the cover artwork. However, a good story is what it’s all about. Read Batman - Year One. Rudimentary art that I would normally avoid, but what a story! It’s one of my favorites. Now if you want both art and story, get David Mack’s Kabuki series. I’ll leave it at that https://image.nostr.build/8fd42b837d39f528b1017f8990dddaeb622cc39a131654ed8f458ff7f69fa52d.jpg
Bank rant - to increase the monthly payment limit on my account I need to have the full amount already in the account. So I have to put money into an account that I am not able to take it out of., then ask permission to send it. Why? How does this help me?
https://fountain.fm/episode/JhEkiCGWTVPhXsrORpVu Interesting takeaway from this - individuals are unpredictable, but in a large group / organism / network they can be predictable. Is this is where stereotypes come in? A 1-1 encounter has endless possibilities, but in a big group stereotypes take over.

"When I wrote The Mobile Wave, (2012) the observation was that software networks are dematerializing everything you could hold in your hand.

You went from taking photos on a Canon camera and storing them in a shoebox to Facebook and Instagram and the iPhone. It wasn't worth 10 times as much, it was worth 1000 times as much. The world's going to change.

These networks [are] going to..destroy 15,000 other companies competing with them because nobody in the history of the world could ever upgrade or ship a product for no variable cost to the entire planet for a nickel. And yet, that's what Google does. That's what Facebook does. That's what Apple does. And that's the part of Amazon that works well. The conclusion was to buy Apple, Amazon, Facebook, and Google.

I wrote the book. Nobody read it.

I took $50 million of my own money..and converted [it] into $500 million. It made me conclude [that] if you want to make money in the tech era, you find the dominant digital network, the one that's worth 100 billion, that's crushed everybody.

If you buy too soon, you might miss it. You might hit Blackberry, MySpace, or Yahoo. But after it’s $100 billion, the market has decided. Apple is the winner, Google's the winner, Facebook's the winner, Amazon's the winner. I know it's pretty obvious.

Amazon was the winner in 2013 when it was trading at 300 bucks. It was funny! Everybody on Wall Street said what is this stupid company, they don't make any money. We don't buy into it. But you could have bought it.

You could buy all those things, and you would have got a 10x - 20x gain on it. You just wait until the 99% of the world that disagrees, that’s cynical, skeptical, and ignorant, ..as it gradually dawns on them that Google is an Information Network. Facebook is a social network, Apple is mobile network, Amazon is retail network.

It made me very successful as a personal investor, but my company didn't invest in it. 2020 came and I swore to myself that if I ever saw this again, I wasn't going to write a book, I was going to buy as much of that thing as I could personally, as much of that thing as I could corporately, and then I was just going to tweet about it."

Posting a screenshot / pic is one thing. Sharing a url is more complicated. There are some workflows that are pretty universal and it’s a hassle to have to do it differently for each app
I don’t understand why Georgia, USA runs the power lines above ground. The sheer cost of maintaining the trees alongside the power lines, combined with the risk of trees damaging the lines n storms, just makes no sense. Why not run them underground? Cities in third world countries can do it. And it certainly is an eyesore. https://image.nostr.build/1bbd253de35e9e9ffdb4f073dce553fa663f526da53b6e672ab2a348b56722d7.jpg

I’ve always loved music. But the kind that most of my friends did not like. A bit of heavier stuff. And the 1990 and 2000’s were the golden age of alt rock. A great time to be around. I hung on to new music trend and bands until I was in my 40’s but it’s safe to say that the rock space has been pretty dead for a number of year. Yes, I know old bands still release new material but that’s not the same thing. Now, funny you have Seether in your post. Absolute cracker band originating from South Africa (my home country). They were called Saron Gas back then. Fine Again is my favorite track of theirs.
 Tether is not a CBDC.

It's literally a BDC

Well said, Guy. In fact @preston had a great chat with the Tether guys on his latest #bitcoinfundamentals podcast. Very interesting to see how this helping people in the new world with massive inflation issues. It’s a stepping stone to Bitcoin adoption too.
Great article Alex. And a HUGE part of this potential, as pointed out by the mighty @LynAlden , is the way you can use this for payments, making your lightning wallet similar to Venmo. Simply search for the person you need to pay, and zap them some sats. This is gonna be incredible!
I need to make an effort to post on nostr more.

So my theory is as follows: Your first 20 years don’t really count (school, college, etc). Your productive years start after this. You will probably live to 80-90yrs old. This means that by 40 years old you’ve only been productive for a quarter of your life. This means that you should be getting better, faster and really hitting your stride by 50. Not thinking of retiring and dying.
 Nostr, I need movie suggestions.

Morgan Stanley to Offer Bitcoin ETFs to Wealthy Clients: Morgan Stanley is allowing its 15,000+ financial advisers to sell shares of BlackRock's IBIT and Fidelity's FBTC, CNBC reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter. Great article Lynn, thank you. I’m looking to spend a large part of my time next year working with businesses in South Africa (my home country) to help them accept bitcoin as payment for goods and services. This will be a real answer to the question, ‘so once I have been paid in bitcoin , what do I do with it?’
I recently read an article by an economist calling himself a ‘real Keynesian’. This apparently means that you should print money to kick start a sluggish economy, but then you must pay it back when times are good. So my question is this: if you kick start an economy by printing money, and then when the economy is booming you remove the printed money, do you not then put the economy back where it was before? It sounds like a boost on false pretenses will not be sustained if the money is withdrawn. Am I missing something here? Any economists around that can help me with this? @LynAlden
It’s not clear to me what LGBT and the Last Supper have to do with the Olympic Games. This is obviously meticulously planned, funded, and approved by the IOC.

The purposes of the modern olympic games
Based on the official Olympic Charter and various sources, the purposes of the modern Olympic Games can be summarized as follows:

Promoting Peace and International Understanding: The Olympic Games aim to bring nations together through sports, fostering respect, tolerance, and cooperation among countries and cultures.
Harmonious Development of Humankind: The Olympic Movement seeks to promote a balanced development of the body, personality, and mind through sport, education, and culture.
Social Responsibility: The IOC encourages the values of Olympism to be practiced in society, emphasizing the importance of social responsibility, respect for universal fundamental ethical principles, and the preservation of human dignity.
Gender Equality: The Olympic Movement prioritizes gender equality, striving to increase access to sport for female athletes and promote women’s participation in sports administration and management.
Cultural Exchange and Education: The Games aim to blend sport with culture and education, promoting mutual understanding and respect among nations through the celebration of their diverse heritages.
Unifying the World through Sport: The Olympic Games provide a platform for athletes from around the world to come together, compete, and celebrate their shared humanity, transcending national and cultural boundaries.

Argh, you will be sorely missed. Your show is the best #bitcoin podcast. Perfect mix of humour, great guests and topics. Not sure how this gap will be filled. Well done on a cracker of a show and all the best on your next adventure.
Funny enough, I was just listening to on of your latest podcasts and you were talking about retiring from international travel in the next year or so. I guess this the universe agreeing with you. I encourage you to take this as such a positive new direction in your life.
The old comments about how similar this space (BTC and Nostr) is to the early days of the internet, come to mind. Network effects are so hard for us to grasp. In the beginning it seems quirky and quaint, then suddenly it’s on everyone’s lips and it’s the ‘next big thing’. But the ‘suddenly’ part is actually years of hard work by people from all over contributing, sharing, helping and building. It reminds me of professional sports. By the time we, as the general public become aware of a new big name in sport, I can promise you it’s not because he or she decided yesterday to start training. The people that join in 10 years time will swept up in the network effect of this ‘new’ thing.

Brilliant series. Reading about how the team was writing scripts on the fly, based on viewer responses to each episode added to the vibe. Some characters were only supposed to have a one or two episode appearance but went on to becoming major characters. Great writing, great characters, great location. The end was always going to be tricky, much like GOT - can’t please everybody

And don’t get me started on Windows wanting you to create a Microsoft account to start up a new laptop. Every step of the working day you are sent prompts to create an account. Default document saving location is Microsoft Onedrive, and it seems impossible to change the setting. I’ve paid for the laptop, and your OS license already, why do I need an account? What happened to free software being a hassle while paid software is awesome? I’ve used Windows laptops since the early 2000’s, and it’s getting worse in leaps and bounds.
Hi Guy. As a matter of interest , any idea how Blackberry’s BBM would have compared to today’s messaging apps? It used a PIN number instead of a mobile number or email address and was supposed to be end-end encrypted.
Watching my first Tour de France while in the US. Strange to hear American commentators and not the usual British commentators. But actually really enjoying the change. Great job Peacock
