I've solidly become one of those people whose music tastes got locked in during their teens and twenties. So for me that's like 1990s and 2000s rock, or newer bands of the same genre. Does anyone ever deviate from that trend? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERZA81acxD4
Don’t even get Hozzel started
I TEND TO HAVE A PRETTY WIDE RANGE LOCKED IN AND FIND FINDING ME MUSIC TO BE LIKE A TREASURE HUNT…AND YET SO SO MANY SONGS SICK WITH ME… https://youtu.be/uAE6Il6OTcs?
I think it relates to the formative nature of those years which we emotionally associate to the music, sometimes stated as “music is the soundtrack of life”. There is also a theory called the “Reminiscence Bump” that touches on this topic.
I’ve always loved music. But the kind that most of my friends did not like. A bit of heavier stuff. And the 1990 and 2000’s were the golden age of alt rock. A great time to be around. I hung on to new music trend and bands until I was in my 40’s but it’s safe to say that the rock space has been pretty dead for a number of year. Yes, I know old bands still release new material but that’s not the same thing. Now, funny you have Seether in your post. Absolute cracker band originating from South Africa (my home country). They were called Saron Gas back then. Fine Again is my favorite track of theirs.
₿ only and Tool only.
I’m still obsessed with Tool 20 years later but I’ve actually got into death metal and classical music in my late 30s and now 40s.
I listen to all sorts of genres, new, old, and very old. The urge to enjoy that teenage angst is definitely a strong one. Those spells will last a few weeks for me, but for some reason I've dodged that settling of preference. There's so many incredible artists out there creating passionate works.
i went from metal to punk to psytrance to industrial to ambient and all of those make some degree of appearance in my playlist, in pretty much order of distance in time ambient is my staple these days music with lyrics does not go well with programming
Makes sense. Listening to voices is definitely a hard thing to shut off. 😅
yeah, double that when you have trauma history/ptsd, just loud sudden noises even... dogs and screaming children make me crazy one thing that has been interesting though as i have made progress with my diabetes and general health problems my hyper-sensitivity is declining and i'm feeling more relaxed going into keto after a full 3 day fast really made a difference way beyond what you would have guessed... looking forward to my next one, i schedule them for the 3 days leading to the new moon, so, starving myself again from 31st, the 3rd day before the new moon
Mansonite though and through. #antichrist #superstar
Yeah I'm still exploring new genres and artists. I listened to classic and alternative rock as a teen. I got into hip hop and electronica in my 20s. I found country and jazz I liked in my 30s. Who knows what the 40s will bring. Sexy sax jazz? Lol no.
Yes, and Seether, hell yeah
Funnily enough I really didn’t like classical music. Now somehow I do. My hypthesis is my dad was a massive fan. I detested him blasting it from the speakers where people in school could hear this very uncool music. Now it makes me feel calm and at home 😂. Well played dad..
True for me as well. 😀 incidentally, i have watched Seether live at least 4 times.
My heart takes me all over the world and throughout time. Like this beautiful cover by Lake Street Dive of a Jackson 5 song: https://youtu.be/6EPwRdVg5Ug?si=qHf-0bs4pmjFedc_
I was an 80s kid. I listened to a lot of everything but what stuck with me was early hip hop. (C+C Music Factory, Marky Mark, etc ) My tastes have moved on to EDM, k-pop, and other high energy dance music but I think it all started with that early hip hop.
Yes. I actually get bored of a song if hear it too often. Takes time or the right environment for me to listen to it again and enjoy it. So love to find new music in different genres. But also love a mix of it with older songs
I’m the same.
Yes, I'm always on the look for new stuff. Last summer I finally discovered early hardcore punk, this summer I'm all about doom metal and German provoc-techno-rap.
Peak rock was 1994. All downhill from there.
Not me. I listened to strictly 90s punk rock for 15+ years.
I enjoy some some new music still. Often is it stuff inspired but that same time period. People my age that grew up on the same stuff.
Still plenty of great music being released today. I usually have a browse on something like albumoftheyear every week, and just keep trying new stuff. Has led to great discoveries I never would have contemplated, throughout the years.
or maybe there just hasn't been any real good new music created since then.. 😁
There's plenty if you're open to it.
Yes, many people deviate from that trend.
Exceptions are quite rare in my experience
genres for new bands seem very blurred compared to in the 90's, but what i listen now is pretty much an extension of the same industrial / aggrotech / darkwave / symphonic metal i liked in my 20's, i can't call myself an exception from the trend
Learning to play a musical instrument can change your tastes from an audience member to a performer.
