Americans: “oh, joy! Monday is a holiday! Finally, a three-day weekend! I’ll probably still answer emails on Monday though just to be safe.” Literally all of Europe: “we have 12 holidays this week and after that I’ll be on vacation for two months. If you contact me about work I will report you to the authorities.”
Let's work less and redistribute everything... what a great idea
LOL Like Americans don't redistribute everything. You're in the same range as Switzerland and Norway. We're just smart enough to vote ourselves free time, rather than McMansions. https://m.primal.net/KWaM.png
Medical residents: “Wut’s a holiday…or a weekend??”
We love you for it 🫡🫂
I'm on vacation in Europe and everyone here feels more on vacation than me
Then again, if while on vacation, you post something they don’t like - they might do more than just report you to the authorities.
I’ve been in the US now for 18 months, and this need to respond to every email, text and phone call at all hours of the day (weekends included) is insane. I must be such a disappointment to my new countrymen 😂
so true! 🤣
Work time is work time, and free time is free time - why else would it be called that? :D Life hack: Turn off your work phone and don't give your private number to your boss. lol
Real out of office email from Europe: Hello, Thanks for your email. I am currently out of the office, living my best life while you are stuck sending emails. I will be back eventually on 09.09.2024. Meanwhile I will be enjoying my freedom from the daily grind. If your matter is truly urgent (and I mean it better be earth-shattering), you can contact <insert email here>. Otherwise, your email will sit in my inbox until I decide to grace it with my attention. Best of luck,
It’s called Work-Life balance or caring for your mental health. Experienced a similar attitude to being ‘always on in UK‘. What a miserable life. Work lingers always in the back of one’s mind. Being ‘responsible for IT’ (whatever that means) I started making my colleagues aware of their phone settings - in company training sessions :) It doesn’t need many to start a trend. In Germany there are a number of big companies with ’laws’ (fought for by unions) stating you mustn’t answer/send emails outside office hours. (e.g. VW) I believe those companies haven’t gone under yet ;)
