Friends, Some questions on Lightning ⚡️ usage. When do you use lightning? (Besides Zaps on Nostr 😝) Which is your favourite lightning wallet, and why? Do you care if your lightning wallet is non-custodial? #nostr #grownostr #plebchain #babechain
I use #lightning at coincards.com
👍
J'utilise Alby et suis incapable de faire des zaps peut-être un problème d'extension et j'ai vu hier une note de Derek Ross que je devais mon ordinateur au lieu d'utiliser mon mobile et Satoshi serait plus adapté...je n'y comprend rien
My main usage of LN is zaps and supporting Nostr frens. I use Zeus but primarily from my own node that I run. I care that my LN balance is on my own node and fully hosted by me, because I do not want to lose funds if custodial wallet has any issues outside of my control or influence. 🐶🐾🫡🫂
Good morning! 1. When I use Lightning is taking payments for my cottage industry (only two so far, unless you count Square, Cash App, one Strike payment. 2. I loved WOS at first because it’s so easy. Now I trust Strike to hold significant sums. I use Blue Wallet and WOS to zap. I have Alby connected to Blue Wallet, very easy and pretty immediate. 3. I don’t care if zap accounts are custodial. I would never hold serious coin on KYC wallet. Good to have cold storage for non zappable coin.
Shill your cottage business. Drop a link or something. Are you on lightning network stores directory?
No. Just our website on our profile page. Our products are seasonal, and sell out quickly sometimes, so we don’t list all of them even on our website. Our business accepts lightning payments, but it must be set up via email request through our contact page first. It’s very new to us, but we are 100% behind the Lightning Network and #bitcoin.
I started stacking via ZBD a year ago, still do everyday. I have used the zap to pay for 1 physical item a month. I only care about speed and cost of transactions as I only have pocket change in any wallet. No favourite wallet.
Besides zaps, I’ve used lightning (in lesser frequency to be sure) in e-commerce for both services and deliverable goods, and in-person in retail at bitcoin meetups. Personally, I would not want to use lightning solely custodial. By that I mean, I have no problem using a custodial wallet for pocket change, but for anything substantial I use self custody.
Payments whenever possible. Tips for the Insider Bar staff in Zürich where I hold my meetup. I use #bitcoin on-chain a lot as well with Digitec and Galaxus as they don’t support #lightning yet. I use a small stash I have with Swissquote with their virtual debit card, it’s very cool for a tradfi #bank, great experience. For me, #zaps is still a shitty experience on @damus on #iOS. It even fires up the wrong app when I try to zap. I started with #Muun and it’s still my main wallet for payments. Slowly switching to #phoenix. Don’t really care if I’m custodial or not for a small payment wallet.
I didn’t realize Galaxus & Digitec accept bitcoin payments. I’ll keep that in mind the next time I order something.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I use lightning to pay for paying friends back, buying goods (oshi, in person meetups, bitcoin events, buying meat, being the dj on @NoderunnersRadio) I mainly use wallet of satoshi for ease of use but am going to look into Phoenix. Don't care it's custodial. Don't keep much on there. ⚡⚡⚡⚡
I've thought about this as well. I think it's important as someone who is Bitcoin literate to at least give non-custodial solutions a try and then I can make an informed decision from there. If 1,000 of us "just use custodial because it's easy" that adds up to a lot of #sats in centralized custody. Not saying WoS is a legitimate rug, but it's something we have to give some merit to.
Agree! Which non custodial wallet do you use?
That’s a good point. I didn’t consider volume in terms of the number of users who “only hold a small amount” on a custodial wallet. It seems like the ideal lighting wallet is: - non-custodial - fast & simple to use - offers a lightning address (email format) - includes BTC map & other merchant-friendly features
Use lightning to zap, and to buy stuff from stores if it’s possible (for example coffee, books, hardware wallet stuff). And i always try to pay back friends in sats and hope to get them orange pilled that way I use @Wallet of Satoshi and I’m very happy about it. Yes it’s custodial, that’s why I don’t keep my life savings on it but just a very small portion
Before recently joining nostr, I’ve used blue wallet https://bluewallet.io/lightning/ purely because it was the first non-custodial LN wallet that I came across. Depending on what I’m purchasing, I might have a decent amount in there, so non-custodial (my keys, my funds) makes sense for me. Recent purchases have just been excellent Bitcoin merch tho 🧡
But blue sunset their wallet hosting, no?
I’ve been fine this whole time
Are you self hosting?
Do you make large purchases over lightning or onchain?
Big purchases on-chain, but I like the movement between the two
I zap on stacker.news and nostr I also buy things like coffee (although I have way too much now) from https://www.lightningnetworkstores.com/ (best online Bitcoin store discovery system I've found so far) as well as when I'm traveling I try to check btcmap.org to see if I'm near a store that accepts Bitcoin. May have purchased something from some people at Bitcoin meetups as well The first lightning wallet I tried was electrum. At first I was frustrated not knowing how to route with it, but then I just accepted that I don't need to be routing payments. Found Phoenix after that experience and I've been happy since.
I also asked myself whether I wanted to route payments. The answer was ‘no’ 😂 Phoenix is a great wallet. Very easy to use. WOS is easy, and has btcmap integrated. I use WOS to demonstrate simple lightning payments and consequently carry a small balance on it.
1. Bitcoin meetups, the bar we go to accepts bitcoin. 2. Phoenix wallet, it's fast and simple 3. I do, I want only the best. If you want a lightning address, I'd recommend Zeus, it's also self custodial but the app is slow to start, making it not so great for on the move spending. The lightning address (which we use to accept zaps) is the only benefit to a custodial wallet imo, and @ZEUS is bringing it to non-custodial wallets now. I do use a custodial wallet for zaps today, but I do keep an eye out for non-custodial solutions always.
Great thread, worthwhile reading! nostr:nevent1qqsx2sfsm798ppv9k250tu60gducc560qlrnafwv3xq7ztgx2ffr4gsppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qgsfp8h6venm9p387yrhvn8rc2yft3r0llgczxm5zhw2kql533ztt9crqsqqqqqp0uwwtq
