I’ve been thinking about this for a long time. We need a religion/tradition where these values gets passed down to each new generation, otherwise bitcoin will likely fail in the long term. People will forget why it was created and stop caring. nostr:note1wmxzyfzzx20yhq0ta6yqx8hlacnflqt3hhsfn5jm0vzs7j0rqvfqm3wer2
I’ve been thinking a lot about, and making posts about this too
cyberspace is an accelerated replay of all of the lessons of history. many already forgotten
Agreed. Based. Satoshi can easily be made into a prophet figure anyway. Most of us already do that.
yes I unironically believe this would be a good idea
If we get recognized as a religion we can also get very favorable tax treatment in most places.

A lot of this will probably happen organically. The whole Bitcoin inception story is so incredible that it already has a religious air to it, and it's only been 15 years.

What we really need is a formal text which combines the history of Bitcoin and the ideas we want to preserve with real life lessons and virtues that can fill the role of religion.
I think someone tried to seriously do this:

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Church_of_Bitcoin

Not sure what the status of it is
I live in this state - their church address is less than an hour from my house

Great lead, I'll do some investigation and see if any of them are still around
Nothing can last forever. Our grandchildren will have their own battles, and it may be that abandoning Bitcoin will be the Right Thing.

Saddling people with religious baggage is unlikely to help: not only may you choose the wrong priorities for their future, they will inevitably get warped over time.
Bitcoin maximalism but passed down to our descendants.
Hopefully it sticks.
Looking forward to “the talk” with my son
Reminds me of The Atomic Priesthood.

Apathy is the perfect word--and it's endemic to modern socienty in general.

People don't care about privacy ("I've got nothing to hide")
People don't care about inflation ("My 401K is going up")
People don't care about voting ("My vote doesn't matter")
People don't care about crime ("I don'r want to get involved")
People don't care about God ("I only have to answer to myself")

Apathy--people are too comfortable "letting someone else" do it.
Sure, we need more Bibles. What can go wrong?! This time it's for a noble purpose!🤣
I think it will happen organically. Right now most everyone is still applying 19th century thinking to 21st century technology. Once people realize that the newer ways are vastly superior, they will switch. This is a long game. Right now it’s the engineers and technologists that are making the small but systemic changes.
This sounds a lot like Asimov's foundation, what a cool concept haha
If NGU, no one will fail to pass it down. And self-interest will ensure the best practices are passed down. No one who is 100% in bitcoin is going to be 100% in ETFs or have coins custodied on exchanges. Or not running a node. Or not running a few bitaxes.

Lindy tech perpetuates itself.

natural law supersedes as my kids play out, imho. Love my kids!
In a lot of ways this has already happened. Much more interest exists now in NGU, political engagement, and "integration" with tradfi services than in censorship resistance, bypassing existing financial structures, and make politicians irrelevant.
 Monero fixes this 😂😂😂
The tradition you refer to is called family values. Teach your children right!

My base case is just like all other man made monies, #bitcoin will fail at some point, but likely 80-100 years off. We all won’t have to worry about it then. People at that time will have to figure out a new solution or a better means. The internet was also always about to fail due to scaling issues.

#Bitcoin is following a very similar path to gold: > USD > treasuries > Petro dollars… all just L2, L3, & L4 layers on gold.

I say these points, not as a slight, not to instigate, or out of negative intent towards BTC, but from a review and understanding of how money, people, currency, and empires have risen and fallen over long time frames.

Gold is the only money that has lasted. Land is the only other one (form) but it’s not transactional and is taxable (erosion). Bitcoin could last as long as gold & land, who knows.

But, it is following the path of man made money because we tend to think in currency rather than wealth terms. As “money” moves from sound to unsound, additional layers are built. Offer a means to satisfy human greed, sometimes for good and sometimes for bad.

A process as repetitive as the sun rising from the east to the west. Some means succeed longer, some fail faster. In success, the rise of sound and setting of unsound money is less noticeable as it happens over many decades, not 24 hours.

#Bitcoin is proving to be, at minimum, a base layer money. It’s different because it offers a formidable transactional option (on the back of storing value) unlike gold or land. Though much improved, it still has similar limiting flaws on the transactional side. Why? Bc there is a difference btw money and currency that can’t be solved IMO. One is storage of wealth and one is spending of wealth, those two components naturally go in opposite directions.

BTC has entered the phase of putting currency layers on-top of the foundation faster than expected. A fashion sooner, but similar to Bretton Woods, 31 years after the FED. It could also be viewed as a failed solution that happened much earlier in our attempt at wildcat banking.
The Bitcoin ideology needs to be reinforced, and its influence expanded. To achieve this, Bitcoin requires a institution. Without a doubt, Nostr is that institution. However, many people have yet to realize this. But that’s not the focus, because sooner or later, they will.
 disregard everything else, acquire bitcoins
