 Wen private Nostr accounts?
I want but first, I’d just like a mute repost option? Is it too much to ask?
Nope, but it means some really large accounts lose the repost-advantage because things only show up once, even if you have 200k followers.
Aggregation then? Most popular reposts stay at the top?
I was usually private on Twitter.
I was, too. Many many many moons ago. I didn’t even use it much.
Got tired of the trolls and creeps, and it just feels weird being stared at by a bunch of people I don't realize are staring.
 Yup
Some women I know got doxed and stalked, with men trying to find out where they live, so they went private.

Also stops Internet crawlers and face-recognition engines from indexing your pics.
I learned a valuable lesson very early on that the safest play is to be anon 95% of the time. It has kept me safe and still live in peace over the years.
 💯
Well, private accounts and notes would help a lot of women. Some already left because you can mute, but not block.

So people can follow you around, ranting crazy stuff or whatever and screenshotting, and then you switch to a different client and their notes show up, all at once, and it's like OMG. Homemade fake porn, rape threats, death threats, incoherent rambling threats from the mentally ill, etc.
The unfortunate nature of social media highlights some of the worst of humanity. I lean on the fact that I can never change that so I play defense always because I can really only control what I put out there for consumption. It’s not fair but I work around it to still enjoy it.
 Yeah.

Some of them were ask-nostring hysterically, but I had no solution for them.
I changed npubs, to get away from some people.
Even if you're anon, it's terrifying.

Women need to be able to lock their door.
I think a similar feature is under development for some clients. I don’t remember which clients…
-Only one repost shows up in your feed
Who do we have to zap for that shit, node?? I’m ready.
@elsat Do you know if there’s a feature in the works to show only one repost of a note in the feed ? I thought there was one in the works
 Yes https://github.com/damus-io/damus/issues/859

Focusing on improving design, and experience these few sprints. This one is outside top 3, will keep in mind 🙏
 Thank you Elsat!
 I love! Can’t wait.
Nostur current TestFlight version already has this https://i.nostr.build/9zdME.jpg

 Niiiiice
Thanks node!
 Glad I could help
It didn’t wipe your follows right 👀?
Nostur is actually pretty good with this. It has a feature that checks for changes in your follow list when you open it up. And it prompts you to accept or ignore the changes. It’s a great tool to restore your list if ever something happens to it.
 Definitely keep asking!
 Nostur has this feature
 GTK!
Only people you follow can see your notes ? Something like that ?
Yeah, encrypt every kind01 note and only followers have the key. Like with DMs, but in the feed. And then you hide them and their interactions with other people, for everyone else.
 That would be interesting
 I'm not sure I follow.

Basically, only followers would see your notes?
Only the people I follow can see my notes.
Can't do followers for it, on Nostr, because you can't restrict followers.
In that specific case, there’s no point of following a private account if it doesn’t follow you right? Unless you can do public notes too ?
In Twitter, you could toggle the account public/private. Or you could Tweet individual notes to your follows.

Like, a photograph, or something. Or if you want to write something more personal.
Could be an account setting or a note setting. 🤷‍♀️
Never tried those features on twitter. I can see the added benefit though.
I wonder if there would be the same issue as with DMs where the note itself would be encrypted but not the metadata
 Yes.
Wouldn’t that just be a group chat?
That's what I was wondering! Better said, though! Lol
@hodlbod's Coracle.Social already has private groups
This would be notes in the timeline.
Private notes show up in the feed. The idea of followers/subscribers getting the key would not be hard to build, separate from groups
It's not difficult to build, but I'm going to offer to alpha test because all of the different combinations of notes, replies, edits, quotes, boosts, deletes, highlights...

Yeah, could quickly turn into a mess. 😂 Took Twitter years to get it working right.
No, they're in the normal Twitter-clone feed and interspersed in the replies.
Privacy in this thing happens at the relays, as I see it. Clients are the bouncers to private parties.
 wut u mean?
Nip-29 enables this. And you can set any terms you like btw. You can make people ask permission, set a price, have then post "I like potatoes" in their public feed, etc...

It's just a matter of when a kind1 client implements this. Which is tbh slightly complicated by them having to fetch those private notes from specific relays.

Highlighter and other non kind1 focused clients are already set up to do this.
I like the idea of setting every specific note for public or private. Rather than switching the whole npub to public or private like on IG or probably on Twitter. 🤙🏼
I want this. My Twitter has been private since 07. It’s good to just lurk and follow and not interact sometimes. Or have only your peeps see what you post.
 Yeah.
Or try to fork my note, when you can't even see it. LOL
 Exactly
private accounts allow you to interact on any relay, while remaining incognito.
I like it. I think it will have to be implemented carefully. And I do
believe to do this properly you have to do this at the relay level.
Simply hiding content from users feeds in some clients doesn't solve
your mention of "personal safety" in terms of privacy. Also as a piece
of client software I expect users to have full control of these features
and I personally will have it disabled all the time if I could, I think
many other users would too. If I can get the note from a relay I want
to see it.
Yes, but not much point pulling encrypted notes from accounts that you aren't following.
