I think the reason no one is afraid to say what they really believe is because there simply is no shadow banning, censorship, or de-platforming that is really sustainable on #Nostr.
A big part of that is design, but another huge part is simply the philosophy and culture that created it. People disagree vehemently up here quite often, but neither party is likely to whine like a little bitch and run off to figure out how they can control the others’ ability to speak. And for the few who might, they’ll turn up with little to no viable options.
This is how it should be. Grow up, people disagree. You won’t always like it, but it’s necessary for the evolution of culture, markets, and society. Without it, we literally rot and die. Every single time. No exceptions. Freedom or death. nostr:note16qjdcp2j9femtyx00k26da0teukz9q6h30z72ptd60qmpasaqutszxxgn2
Nostr has allowed me to be uncensored no doubt.
That's why I lay it all out here, there's no downside.
Stay humble and stack zaps
💯 AND: it reminds me of a scene from a movie called ‘The Quartet’ where Christpher Walkin plays a music professor and his students start arguing about a music point and he encourages them to disagree but do so politely. We CAN be civilized when we disagree. Because without CIVILITY what is our society? Just so as what is society without disagreement and debate.
Keep doin what you do Guy!

rhyme & reason left the building to Us!
I think the inability to shadow ban, censor or de-platform has a big role to play, in people's willingness to speak their minds here.
This also impacts the culture within the community. It creates a culture of resilience amongst the Nostriches, that isn't present on other platforms.
Having no algorithms is also a huge plus. Nothing is fed down our throats, or artificially promoted. If something is popular, it is because it is truly viral.
Sometimes I feel too comfortable and say too much tho…😅🤣
I think you’re confusing things. The reason it feels cozy is because you’re in a community of mostly like minded people.
If we make Nostr to exist where there can be many communities like this then we’ll be able avoid the push for centralized authority.
And while you may feel great about how Nostr works most folks who get harassed just leave. Either we build tools for people to regulate their own communities or people will return to centralized platforms. I mean even 4chan has mods. :)
Actually noted a similar idea. Specifically want to emphasize social robustness, or how well individuals can share the same space.
Considering we're already decently robust to censorship, I don't see as it productive to worry about censorship unless you're specifically mentioning changes to the core of nostr. So I'm pro nostr-fragmentation.
From a historical perspective, we've typically never had this frequent contact with more people outside our tribe, and the times we did was less likely to be a positive reason. (probably)

Also thinking about something i'm calling a shield, or "on demand social bubbles". Bottom-up user defined communities.
Something as simple as a whitelist of npubs that you see and blackout everyone else, define multiple communties and there might be some interesting interplay between the overlapping npubs between users.
By all means build tools, but no tool is going to help a snowflake not to be a snowflake.
