Why did ant man quantumania get such bad reviews? It was a perfectly fine MCU movie

LB: guess now I can tell people who say they don't have to wear a mask cause they're vaccinated that the people who invented the dang vaccine technology and received a Nobel prize for it still mask
The vaccine reduces the odds of long covid by at most 50% and long covid incidence according to research is anywhere between 10 and 40 so no if you are vaccinated you still have to mask because if you aren't you're going around disabling people and I fail to see how that leads to equity
And yes, masks do work to protect yourself (and in doing so others), the science on this has been quite clear for years now. Cloth and surgical masks only protect others, but N95/FFP2 and especially better (N99/P100/FFP3) respirators (which are usually reusable) protect the wearer, extremely well in the case of the higher grade masks

Citation: this UK hospital reduced hospital acquired covid infections in staff by 100% (ie entirely) by switching to FFP3 respirators https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jun/29/cambridge-hospitals-mask-upgrade-appears-to-eliminate-covid-19-risk-to-staff
"Summer can't last forever" used to be a threat but nowadays it's an expression of hope
Periodic reminder that if you're a leftist and you don't wear a mask in public; no you ain't

Just cuz you're free from masks doesn't mean you're gonna be free from covid

It is extremely annoying that you can't define the size of an enum in C
suddenly reminded of one of the wildest things i've ever witnessed: when ordering at a restaurant my brother would often simply lean back in his chair and casually request the "chef's choice" and i never once saw him unhappy with the results
there's a ton of educational content on YT from accounts that posted a whole course 3-4 years ago and nothing since. its like at the start of the pandemic we briefly understood that educational content could be made available online for free for all, but then within 1 year everyone just went back to doing it the old way, because lack of accessibility and forced infection is good, i guess?

which is really sad because a lot of those educational videos are really excellent!
PSA for those of you feeling like you're coming down with something since it's happening a lot right now: CDC data for last week indicated that only 0.7% of samples tested for influenza came up positive, so if it's between covid and flu you almost certainly have covid. This is helpful to know because it means you can try to get on paxlovid as soon as possible and significantly reduce your odds of complications

@de22920b "have you made anything I've heard of?" and you just know that unless you've worked on Call of Duty or Fifa it doesn't matter what you say
teach a man to program and he'll make some games, but teach a man to make programming languages and he'll never make a single game ever again
some people have been going around saying the unity news isn't so bad because "it doesn't affect very many people" and

1. there are plenty of reasons to be nervous about a move like this even if it doesn't (currently) affect you

2. the indie studios that aren't getting millions in budget from venture capital but are still doing gamedev full-time professionally are already squeezed enough without unity skimming even more off the top

some people are acting like grossing 200k in a year for an entire studio is like winning the jackpot, when in reality between platform holders, publishers, and governments taking their cut what's left could well be far below subsistence wages for team members already

so yeah, a large percentage of unity users won't be affected, but a large percentage of the indie "middle class", who make a large number of the indie games most people enjoy, *will* be highly affected. and i don't think that's okay. i think that's worthy of some panic
neoliberalism is destroying our future and so neoliberalism must be destroyed
i dont know how anyone uses bluesky. you try to read your feed and while scrolling down it just jumps randomly back and forth all over the place. pretty much literally unusable

@18c32631 i'm very sorry to hear that :/
saw a post on bsky saying the poster has noticed a huge portion of newcomers joining long covid patient groups saying their 3rd infection got them

very worried about the future of public health when ignoring covid for a few more years. what happens when previously healthy people are on their 5-7th infection?
Capitalism be like "it's not okay to pay a sex worker with your credit card but it is okay for a car manufacturer to sell sex tapes of you having sex in your car made without your consent to unidentified third parties"
