Private keys are too difficult for the human.

The average house user does not want to deal with ...
ok but if I lose my house keys the house doesn't go poof
that's right. my ownership of the house isn't about my house keys, but by the fact it's recognized by the central authority which has the monopoly on violence. not a good analogy with bitcoin keys
it does feel a lot faster and smoother. love the new features! nice work team!
 Great talk!

Really enjoyed this talk with @rabble on the history of social network protocols and the vision for a decentralized future built on nostr.

Your grandpa was a beautiful human being. We will remember him and miss him. Please accept our sincere condolences.
very cool! thanks for sharing. is there any indication yet of immune specimens occurring in the wild? hopefully one day

haha this is great. I also still have recurring nightmares about having fun somewhere then realizing something is due and I'm screwed.

In the context of centralized social media & video platforms, the most important aspect of anti-censorship to me is about control of the algos. Opaque recommendation and prioritization of content is the largest source of harm there. What's good for the business is bad for you and your society.

If the default recommend settings on your platform client were "fear, hate, greed", would you uncheck those?

Nostr does fix this.
What’s the best book you read in the past year? #bookstr

Started to harvest potatoes, first season trying to grow a few. Such abundance for a tiny input! It's very satisfying to feel their weight.

We made latkes and they were the tastiest ever.

"Mother Nature" and "Mother Earth" as images deployed to arouse respect and care for the biosphere don't seem strong enough. Adults don't usually depend on their parents for survival the way we all do on Earth's biosphere. Further, respect for elders isn't a strong feature of developed capitalist societies and many may feel comfortable ignoring and even exploiting this metaphorical ancestor.

What are some more apt metaphors? Lifeline Earth? Oasis Earth? Need help...
I planted sunchoke in my food garden this year for the first time, to see what it's like. Pretty astonishing growth. The stalks are thick and 3m (9') tall already, starting from just a couple of tubers in May. Is there another plant that grows so vigorously??

I'm looking forward to harvesting and trying the tubers in early spring. Curious how justified the nickname "fartichoke" is!

Any fartichoke lovers out there? Share some recipes!

Cool, I'll look more into comfrey. I don't have animals in my small city yard but I think it has other uses.
Oh fun! I love risotto and I love pickled stuff.
Haha, will be fun to experiment and see what happens!
 Interesting, I hadn't heard that!

My kid is growing up now and asked me whether growing up in the 80s was as beautiful as it looks like in movies. Seems obvious to her that hanging out outside most of the time, without screens and grownups, was much better.
those proportions look similar through the decades, if I'm reading the chart correctly...
If you only watch one YouTube vid on the human predicament, give this zoomed-out perspective a chance: https://youtu.be/-xr9rIQxwj4?si=s6Q92jAhohCtBuiS

(Also check out Nate's great podcast.)

Interesting for the Bitcoin crowd here might be the relationship between energy and its fundamental scarcity and the rootedness of Bitcoin and other PoW protocols in that reality. What Nate calls our "energy blindness" might be just another way of saying "fiat".
There is! You can find links on the website, but it's more buried than I thought. Here is the Apple link: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-great-simplification-with-nate-hagens/id1604218333

You can also just search for the Great Simplification on whatever podcast app you like to use.

Lots of great episodes; a couple of my favourites are #129 and #85.
Back yard visitor. I'm regularly amazed by the diversity and resilience of wildlife in my relatively central big city neighborhood.

cool idea to spotlight zaps as an important social signal! can't wait to see how it changes the dynamic. hopefully not just an ad space auction 😝
good point - even deliberate monetization of the creator's reach is pretty powerful and could be the start of a whole new model. very cool, and pretty mindblowing how much space there is for this type of experimentation with Nostr + zaps.
 good point!

With new npubs so quick to create, bad actors can easily keep operating as filters fail to keep up, no?
Loving the pull to refresh spinner feedback, big improvement to the UX!

 Very cool stuff
Awesome! I've been waiting for saving images, updates look great 👍 Nice work, team.
Maple is such dense, hard wood. I thought I'd push it to its limits by trying to carve a wearable ring.

I started with a thin slice from a branch I picked up from a neighbour's pile last summer. I used a 1" hole saw drill bit to cut out a circle from that slice, then did some whittling with my carving knife and a whole lot of fine sanding. Got it down to a perfect fit for my wife's ring finger and finished it with linseed oil.

It was fun, and I'm pretty happy with the results.

Very cool. I wonder if adding something like CTCP on top of this NIP might open up a whole world of in-chat features.
