People will soon understand that Nostr is an entirely different type of network than anything they've seen before.

I am not just talking about censorship resistance and user sovereignty. A new breed of applications is now possible. We'll show how good those apps can be.

 Ditto
Nostr is not a competitor to Meta, X, or other single flavor apps.

Nostr is a competitor for HTTPS.

Bring it on!
 Agreed 🤝
 Define soon 😅
Some will learn fast enough, others need years to even understand what is being built right here.
 👏👏👏
It is. I can post ear bleeding #Techno and it's all good😬😂. Shit poast, chat #BTC, ain't no fucker stopping me doing any of that🫡. Decentralise the whole fucking world. #Sovereign #Individual #Introductions.
Nostr and the entire ecosystem that is being built around it will change everything. No one can switch it off, censor it or misuse it for "their" own purposes. A protocol, an ecosystem and this special freedom that we need so urgently right now.
First slowly, then suddenly ... more and more people will understand it, use it and spread Nostr.
An idea whose time has come can't be stopped 🔥!
 If y’all don’t do it., “they” will…
Y’all better make these apps before “they” do. Y’all have the power and leverage right now. Let’s go! 🫂
 Tell me more about
 ✊🫂🧡
BREED IT AND THEY WILL COME
💯 now we are talking! bring it on "INTERNET"!
As someone who is very new to nostr, how is illegal content restricted if the protocol is censorship resistant?
 You decide who to block.

The protocol/client devs do not.

It's for once, your choice on what you see and don't.

Relay operators can decide what content to transmit. For example, they could impose custom restrictions, or put a pay wall there to limit the spam (paid relays).

If some relays start censoring you, you can just transmit your notes through some others, or even your own ones. As long as anyone "subscribes" for reading those relays, the communication works.
 🫡💜
Yeah I’m excited to see what different clients are made. I’m impressed with Fountain so far
Super happy getting on nostr and primal! The community feels great😊
#Nostr protocol is very interesting and simple. It's the most decentralized social network. I just doubt that it will be widely adopted by the general public (because there are concepts that are new compared to other networks, such as keys, etc).
keys and encryption will be the topic of the next decade(s). Education is required.

Our kids and grand kids will see us as caveman when we’ll tell them:
- we created accounts on all web site.
- we posted without signing
- and before that, we used http (!https)
Look at litprotocol.com to get an idea...
 Excited times
 new internet it is
 🍿🤙
 Boom. Love this vibe

Is there somewhere or someone that is documenting the Nostr startup ecosystem?

Also, is there a decent Nostr focused angel investment syndicate?

I'd love to see a group of early-stage investors exclusively looking at Nostr

My assumption is that there are great founders out there, with huge ideas, that would like some smart money

I know there are a few VCs looking at this, but a group of angels is a little different to that
I can’t answer your VC question, but these sites list many of the apps in the ecosystem

http://nostr.net/

https://nostrapps.com/
Perfect. Let me take a look at that
I wonder, have you thought about releasing your book in chapters on Nostr?

Like a v4v channel to promote the book. People can zap per chapter

Would be a cool way to promo a longer book
Once upon a time not too long ago, my book was the first book ever to be “powered by lightning.” You could buy individual pages for a few sats on my old website. However, Mash - the company which made that possible - seems to be reevaluating their business model, and so it’s no longer available… but re-releasing it on Nostr is an intriguing idea. I’ll have to explore that.
Wow. Talk about a use case for Nostr then

You’re no longer at the whim of a company for that service

What you publish is yours, along with her v4v sats received, without threat of it being removed

I wonder if you did it with @YakiHonne or @Habla News type client it might be easier to browse etc
It will be interesting to see whether nostr as a protocol will achieve widespread recognition or whether the apps built on nostr will dominate.

In fact should primal as example even care about nostr snd simply use it as a means of building a great app?

There are a number of such interesting tensions in this evolutionary phase.
End users will always (upon crossing the chasm of adoption) outweigh the developer count.

Transposing that idea to Nostr vs Apps.

The protocol will be more adopted before use cases (apps) are built upon the protocol
 We will 🫡
 which apps, for example?
 I second this question!
 And @Twighlore

Initially the internet was a protocol.

A “super highway” upon which to build.

That’s the concept of Nostr except without 3 letter agencies being behind its creation.

So if you think of Nostr as a conduit (a protocol), rails upon which things can be built.

The initially logical questions are:

1. What currently exists that can be improved by transposing it to Nostr?

2. What currently doesn’t exist that can now be built becasue Nostr exists?
Thanks. I can think in many things in that lines. But I thought it could be some app that I was missing.
There could be an app you are missing 😎

Go through @TobiyaDelta ‘s profile he has put together an article or two that lists various #nostr apps he’s found useful on his #grownostr journey
Nostr is the new internet @miljan
 Strongly agree
Reminds me a little of discovering the availability, eccentricity, and wonder of the internet circa 1996
 same!
 🫡 #NOSTRONLY
 💯 ✊
Feels like the begining of something big!
 Love the fire 🔥
Do you know anyone building medical credentialing, medical records, or medical laboratory information systems-related technologies with nostr? Am searching for people at this intersection.
I've been thinking about it, and I can see #nostr and the legacy internet kind of diverging in the near term. Centralized entities will continue to force controls onto the old internet, while nostr will continue to become ever more censorship resistant as it moves from #decentralized to #distributed in nature, even to the point that cutting off internet access won't be effective (am I overly optimistic about what I've seen lately with #Meshtastic?).

Eventually, the old internet will die, because the old guard can't innovate. At first they'll try to copy or mimic elements of the new nostr internet, but it will get so far ahead of them that they can't keep up. And the old internet will "die" in that it will no longer have any new developments.

Meanwhile, nostr and bitcoin will both continue to develop and become more adaptive to new society needs and pressures under the proof-of-work and value-for-value paradigm. This stimulates positive outlooks on the future and ever more creative problem solving. Many of these solutions will initially focus on cleansing the literal and metaphorical toxins out of our systems from living in a fiat world. But after that, who knows?
Wouldn't recommend to have high hopes on meshtastic. They've been criticized often for ignoring volunteer efforts to improve the platform and the hardware itself is exotic.

We already have good enough hardware right now in our pockets, smartphones are able to communicate for hundreds of meters without phone nor internet.

I'm investing my time and effort to make sure we rescue our phones into the decentralized land.
I'm not super knowledgeable about the project itself, but what I meant was to use it as an example with the recent demonstrations of people making #nostr posts with it. I'm all for phones having that capability, in fact that's even better! Especially if people have the option to send signals in different frequencies (in the interest of comsec and to get around jamming if they are currently in a country that's hostile to self-sovereighnty).
 We'll get there.

New projects on that route will soon be presented here. If they succeed, just really depends on us here to make them happen.
Hope is the last thing you lose; let's hope it stays that way.
I think you are right .
/ there will be no limited visibility problem
/ banned
/ suspended
/ there are no entities can take our post away or closed our nostr 🔥

A possible future? Imagine a world where every interaction is seamless, private, and truly yours. Nostr isn't just a network, it's the foundation for a new digital era. The apps built here won't just be good, they'll redefine what we expect from technology. We're on the brink of something revolutionary, and it's only just beginning. 🫡
well I hope so sure got a long way to go... but Im here for the ride...
Nostr is the same as bitcoin
Write use and buy🥳🥳🥳
 💜🫡🫂

Digital Identity plus digital money is huge - will change a lot
I tried Nostr like a year or so ago and it was awful. Seems to have come a ways.
What has improved in your opinion?
 Or how bad 😅

But we’ll have a choice to use the good ones instead
It’s more like a new internet!

A new internet where your data and identity are in your own control, and payments and payment discovery are baked in!

I’ve been having trouble explaining to friends how to use it, it’s a bit complicated at first
I've found @primal to be the best for onboarding #noobstrs. set them up with a primal wallet and zap their first post... ⚡
Actually what I used myself to come on nostr (a few days ago) and what I’m recommending. Primal is great.
I came on board 2 weeks ago via Primal and had to setup WOS as my zap wallet. it's still a learning process for a non-technical new user.
Is that on android or iOS? On iOS the built-in primal wallet (through strike) is quite easy to setup
on android. I just switched as a learning task.
 lets do it
Just started today. I hope you're right and I look forward to the ride 😄
 it's going to be legendary!
 🫡🫡💪
imagine all apps share the same data even eCash
Technology and cryptography in particular is the workhorse of the people against government entities, we must be prepared and have the right tools to protect ourselves
 GM 💜
Nostr would be nice for gaming. same I'd in all games. I'm game zaps , buy items with btc and so on 😉
It is such a struggle trying to figure everything out, how to interact and engage with ppl, exciting to be a part of the future of online platforms tho!!!
So happy to see many of the people I follow already on #nostr. This looks like it's going to be some great place. The protocol with app layer on top is so amazing... Many clients all same base. Dating app would also be great as how it's designed now... Let's fly
Seems like early days for a lot of cool things
When you say censorship resistance, what about a DNS block? Has this been achieved? If not, it is my understanding that Nostr can be censored by the government pretty easily. Maybe someone can shed some light?
isn't nostr relays similar to torrent trackers? if so it can be replicated to other servers
Still seeing muted accounts ~20% of the time
I think Nostr has potential, I think with time it may even have as much utility as Hive Blockchain
With nostr the sky is the limit
 🤘
nostr has easily been the most influential tech in my socially embedded edtech platform, more influential than even OpenAI was in 2023.

Being able to unlock the ability to prove studying across platform, the ability to create circular economies with edtech and the ability to embed software experiences directly inside of traditional media platforms is so surreal that it's hard for people to grasp that things can be better.

Why is my Alby wallet connect not working with Primal though?
 That's great what you said.
