I was dealing with a similar issue on Iris.to web-app of it showing "trending posts" that I don't want to see. If you have the uBlock Origin plugin installed in your browser you can use the "block element feature" to "hide" aspects of websites that you don't like. I've found this really helpful to improve websites by removing things like "trending posts, comment feeds, or other annoyances" that are meant to click-baity or suck you in.
I use a dumb phone as my daily driver but have a cheap smart phone without a sim card in it. I generally don't bring my smart phone out of the house with me, but I will if I envision needing it. I treat it like a mini computer and pull it out only when needed for some specific task. Doing this I get the best of both worlds in my opinion.
Thanks so much for all you've done, Peter. You're show took me from having a casual interest into Bitcoin to truly going deep into it. You are great at what you do! Good luck in the next venture.
Zaps don't seem to work on the web version of @primal that I use on my laptop.
I can't check my wallet balance either.
Is there anyway to fix this or is the functionality just not built yet?
Other than this, Primal on the web works great (thank you developers!!)
I don't use a smartphone because they are addicting and my #dumbphone doesn't allow #socialmedia.
It's frustrating when web interfaces are less functional than apps. It's similar on Instagram. It's like the developers are trying to force you to use the app. I understand why... because phones are addicting and increase screen time.
But I think a huge part of #freedomtech is breaking away from screen addiction and being in control of your digital consumption.
Giving up my #smartphone was one of the best things I did in the past few years for my #mentalhealth.
Trying to like #NOSTR and I do, but I think the biggest problem is it's still #socialmedia... at least in this version of it.
I'm probably just showing my age but I feel like blogs and forums are so much better.
Large Language Model #AI has changed the world. There is no need to write technical content anymore. By giving a one sentence prompt, I can generate an incredible article in 5 seconds. Writing the same article would have taken me hours in the past. It takes knowledge and expertise to verify that the AI generated accurate and useful content, so I still play a crucial role. But for me to be the "writer" and not the "director and editor" going forward seems absurd. I'm really impressed by this and wonder about the ramifications going forward.
Aside from Bitcoin/Finance, what are your three favorite hobbies?
Here's mine:
1. Running (Built a lifestyle business around this)
2. Learning to DIY Everything (Cooking, home projects, tech, etc)
3. Soccer (Mostly just watching it for now... hopefully playing a little some day)

Good post! I spent some time today trying to figure out this Zap thing. I just sent you my first Zap of 10 sats and it seems to have gone through! Can anyone see if I have a @primal lightning address on my profile and can receive zaps? I set up a lighting wallet using the Primal app but don't see an address on my profile like I see for other people on here.
I went for a walk in my old neighborhood one night and heard this song playing from a second floor window. Three random guys were playing a cover of it in their living room. It was amazing.
Can someone explain to me why so many Bitcoiners are anti-stocks? Is it just an "all or nothing" Bitcoin-Maxi thing?
Investing as much of your income in the US Total Market or S&P500 Index as possible is pretty much a sure-fire way to become wealthy and support American enterprise. It's way less risky than putting "all your eggs in one basket" with something like BTC.

I agree that Bitcoin is likely the best asset in the world, but what if it proves not to be? Bitcoin is just software created and run by fallible humans after all (not too dissimilar to stocks which are claims to businesses run by humans). Going 100% into any one asset or asset class is risky. Diversification is one of the most important lessons we can take from investing. Buying 100% bitcoin may make you incredibly rich, but it may also make you incredibly poor. We can have faith and conviction that it will go up (like I do), but that doesn't change reality.
Great points. Thanks for your response. Obviously everyone is going to come to a different conclusion about what the correct asset allocation is for them and that will change over time.
Self-custody is a really powerful tool. My grandfather actually had to flee his country to escape genocide when he was 10 years old and his family smuggled gold out of the country by hiding it in his clothes. So I get the value of self-custody and the benefits it provides.
Your point about "not trusting the state" is an interesting one. I'm lucky to live in the USA who I think is more trustworthy than most governments (at least for now). I'm willing to let reputable custodians hold stocks for me, but feel empowered knowing how to move stocks asset to btc self custody if needed in a time of crisis.
What a wonderful post and beautiful cat! Thank you for sharing these insights. I'm finding NOSTR to be a very refreshing take on social media. Holding bitcoin, when diversified in a portfolio to your risk tolerance, can give a lot of peace of mind. Set it and forget it. Hopefully in 10x years it's life changing money.
I think this is wise. Most people don't understand money or investing to begin with. Bitcoin is still complicated and not user friendly unfortunately. I think people around the world will come to it if and when they are ready and have a true need for it.
One of the main issues with getting more people to adopt #bitcoin and alternative social media like #nostr in the USA is uninformed people immediately think you are crazy when you tell them about it.
Posting in #ALLCAPS on NOSTR doesn't help the cause of not seeming crazy.
Yikes! Good job. I was just teaching a friend about the importance of this, but admittedly I told him most people never do it and neither have I. I probably should! Did you use a special tool or technique to get that stuff out?
Congrats on the move! Always an exciting time!
Sorry to hear about your package being stolen. I recently switched to using a PO BOX for my personal mail and delivery to Amazon Lockers when ordering from there. It's certainty "less convenient" than home delivery but it adds privacy and security... plus I like taking the trip to pickup the mail.
Also may I recommend a book? How To Resist Amazon And Why (2nd Edition): The Fight for Local Economics, Data Privacy, Fair Labor, Independent Bookstores, and a People-Powered Future! by Danny Caine.
It's not that I hate working, it's just that I'd rather do just about anything else.
Wouldn't you too?
Of course Financial Independence, Retire Early (#FIREmovement) is about #retiringearly.
What's the point of working towards and having #financialindependence if you don't use it?
I'm trying to embrace the feeling of being retired even though I'm technically not yet. I'm close financially, and working 10 to 15 hours a week on a passion project that earns income to help me get over the line.
Once I get over the full FI line, I plan to remove pretty much all of the few remaining aspects of my "work" that I don't enjoy, and spend more time on new passion projects.
I think it's silly to call it "work" at this point, even if it does earn money.
If we can remove an unnecessary middle man, then why don't we?
After 18 years of exclusively using #creditcards for all purchases made in person, I've switched to using #cash this year.
Using cash has feels much more in line with my values.
Paying with cash gives the full value of your money to the recipient, encourages you to spend less, and gives you #privacy.
Paying with credit deprives a significant amount from the recipient, encourages you to spend more (even when you pay it off in full each month), and removes your privacy.
I still use a 2%-points-back credit card when necessary, but I'm convinced I spend at least 2% less by using cash over credit whenever possible.
Been using this for a few weeks as my first "introduction to AI". It's a really powerful tool. Been using it to support my work by helping me write emails, written responses, and formulate ideas around educational content. It's kind of scary how powerful it is.
Hi Brock, I'm also a new user of NOSTR and recently deleted my LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook as well. Well, actually I still have an Instagram for my business but that plays an important role in my work (unfortunately).
I think most of my distaste for social media comes from the fact that it is controlled and manipulate by those entities that run their platforms.
I'm optimistic that a protocol like NOSTR can help people communicate more like they did back in the "good old days" of blogging and message forums.
So far I like it. While the community is small right now, hopefully most of us are united around some common core values and it will only grow in the direction we want from here. If it never reaches mass appeal, I don't see that as a bad thing.
Enjoy your time here!
I love your comment, "Being frugal is to be free."
I've felt that my whole life. Know how and being willing to "downside" if needed is a super power.
Another thing I've learned in the past 5 years is that, "Knowing how to make money through self-employment is to be free."
Combining the skills of "Frugal" + "Making Your Own Money" is a very resilient and calming way of life.
One risk is to not be so frugal that your life becomes more stressful. A recent learning example for me was keeping my old work computer for far too long. It was slow and extremely stressful to use. Upgrading to a new and relatively expensive one has saved me countless hours of work and stress. Lesson learned: don't overpay for a tool. Buy the right tool for your needs, but also know when to replace it.
Following your content here on NOSTR!
Hi Rapscallion! I'm excited to hear you got hooked by #FIRE. It's such a rewarding path to go down.
How are things going for you now that it's been 2 months since this post?
The beginning stages of working on #financialindependence are so exciting. The FIRE Movement was my main financial path from 2014 to 2024. It still is, but I recently went down the bitcoin rabbit hole so I've added some BTC to my portfolio.
I think if I was just starting off, I would allocate a higher % to BTC, but now that I'm fairly close to full FI using #IndexFunds, I'm cautiously adding BTC to help speed up the final leg of the journey and supercharge the future.
Have you increased your savings rate? What are your thoughts on Asset Allocation right now?
Not enough people talk about BTC positively in the FIRE crowd. Frugal Stu is a good resource: https://www.getbitcoinfi.com/
