 People have always added arbitrary shit on chain. My problem is the witness discount on top of a 1MB limit. 

The compromise to make the block limit bigger in 2017 was a mistake.  

 We don't have too . Lowering the limit to 300kb is softforkable AND with the witness discount we can still have 2MB blocks.


The mistake is fixable 

 Unless youre viewing it throught the eyes of the ordinals protocol you cant see anytning.  

 I mean every illegal TX that has ever been made was validated with your node.  

 You can't prevents that. We could prevent the amunt of data that can be stored with each block.  

 Limiting the size of the chain so people can still IBD 40 years from now  

 My problem isnt whats being stuffed. My problem is with the amount of data thats being stuffed   

 It wouldn't be tiny blocks though. They would effectively be double from pre 2017.

Non custodial wallets are just as simple to use as custodial wallets so I don't see it being a problem when Bolt12 arrives. Life isn't fair, sometimes we just need to wait.
