Exactly why we need BOLT 12 yesterday instead of everyone just using a poor alternative in LNURL that is hard to do in a self-sovereign way (as it requires an entirely separate web server etc.)

BOLT 12 has been around for 2y and implemented in Core Lightning for 1.5y and yet we can't actually use it. Sad and depressing state of things, IMO partially caused by people being able to skate by using crappy alternatives due to offloading responsibility to a 3rd-party like WoS. 

 I'm with you on that. I'm just stating WHY people are using non custodial wallets. 

Non custodial wallets are just as simple to use as custodial wallets so I don't see it being a problem when Bolt12 arrives. Life isn't fair, sometimes we just need to wait.  

 100%, Bolt 12 is the answer. LNURL is a stopgap that does a lot of cool things while also encouraging custodial solutions. 

I think Lightning Labs is a big stumbling block here. They seen to be prioritizing a "stable" coin usecase that could very well be obsolete when they get it into production.

If we had BOLT 12 as we should have ages ago, most of the issues with Zaps would be a moot point as it would be far easier to do things the right way. 

 I get that most people aren't going to run a BTCpay server. I think what irritates me is the "thought leaders" of Nostr that promote paid Nostr related services and they are using a custodial lightning address service. Seems to me like we are building the Nostr ecosystem on sand.
