This is fascinating, if also chilling
"In light of the accumulating evidence, we propose a new paradigm for COVID-19:
COVID-19 is a disease that has an acute and chronic phase. Both phases can be asymptomatic or symptomatic, and the severity and nature of symptoms in either phase depends on the host immune response, viral inoculum and location of infection"

"Tomorrow, 75,000 health care workers are set to strike at hundreds of Kaiser facilities across several states in the largest such strike in US history. Their primary grievance is low staffing levels, which unions say are hurting patients and workers alike."

Still taking in all the photos of NYC flooding yesterday after a "routine" rain event (i.e. not a hurricane). I lived in NYC for Irene and Sandy. One of many factors in deciding to move to CA when offered a job here was regional leaders' foot-dragging on fixing the (already ailing) transit infrastructure before & after Sandy. #ClimateDiary
(*edit: I hope Chris Christie rots in hell, is part of what I'm saying here)
@64a373a4@92e87ec1@3967703f I've seen a lot of people who had made appts reporting getting turned away bc of no actual vax available; and some bc of insurance/being told to pay. You're the 1st I've heard of telling the pharmacy point blank to use the Bridge Pgm and it still not working--but I'm sure that's just bc not enough ppl are asking for that. UGH, shitshow
(My dad also had his appt he'd confirmed on the phone later canceled)
@92e87ec1@3967703f I'm seeing a ton of people here--i.e. pretty damn well informed people--who know that the bridge program exists for uninsured but I did not realize you can invoke it if your insurance isn't fully covering all the costs. (And I'd still want to see how it works in practice...) Anyway, thanks for pointing that out
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City closed its lobby today, September 15, for over two hours after dozens of climate activists blocked the institution’s ticketed entrances. The demonstrators were protesting the museum’s ties to private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR), which has invested heavily in fossil fuel projects

Anyone 6 months or older should get the updated coronavirus shot, CDC recommends as respiratory illness season approaches Mandy Cohen, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, made the recommendation after the agency's expert advisers voted for a universal approach to seasonal coronavirus vaccination. The shots should start being available later this week.
There are at least a couple reasons non-minoritized users here "don't see the racism here". One is technical, sometimes: not all replies are visible for all users, etc.
The other is not: sometimes racisms are subtle, polite, dog-whistle-y, leaning hard on plausible deniability, etc.
Anyway if minoritized users here say they see/are subjected to racism here, it's helpful to just believe that and keep one's ears and eyes open. *Whether* it's happening isn't a useful point of entry.
