(I will totally have this fun conversation!)
So I'm not a doctor and can't speak to that aspect of it. But I can talk about the history.
It's possible that, had Hitler's condition been known, his enemies would have taken the same kind of comfort in it as I take in certain people being 80, so I'll certainly grant you that. But with the benefit of hindsight, it's pretty clear that Hitler wasn't incapacitated by whatever it was. Did it contribute to his actions? Sure. I'd just argue that it didn't mean the same thing as him being 80.
With the benefit of hindsight it's entirely possible that people of the future will look at Trump being 80 and think I was being wildly optimistic. He could certainly live longer than I expect. But I take more comfort in his age than I might if he were thirty and had a degenerative condition.
You as a doctor would probably be in a better place to say for certain, but Hitler's decline over the course of his Fuhrer-ship doesn't lead me to believe that he wouldn't have lived and thrived for quite a few years longer had the war gone differently.
I like the scholarship surrounding Hitler's condition. It's very compelling and exclaims some puzzling things. I just don't know that I believe it to be a smoking gun, any more than the stuff that has come out about his drug use is a smoking gun. I guess that's all I'm saying. I don't think the drugs would have killed him quickly either.
Pundits really want to blame Kevin McCarthy's ouster on Democrats? Huh. What a tremendous surprise. It's almost as if, and feel free to quote me on this, **the corporate news media is a propaganda arm of the Republican Party because the corporate media has a vested interest in supporting fascism.**
If everyone I meet has something to teach me, can they do it via email? I'd like to get a lot of them out of the way at once, is what I'm saying.
This meeting literally could have been an email.
I used to change my name to "Evil Is Itinerant" for Halloween on Twitter. On fedi, I think I'm going to just leave things alone this year. I can't find any good pictures of elephant ghosts to change my avatar to either.
I like Halloween just fine. No worries there.
Corporate media isn't failing you. It doesn't serve you. You're the intended audience but it serves capital and power. Stop framing it as a failure. Corporate media is performing exactly as designed.
I've noticed a marked decrease in the number of cat pictures with alt text recently, which is probably reflective of a decrease in pictures as a whole. This worries me for obvious reasons. I'm not going to nag people about it because that's another fedi thing we don't need more of, but please consider including alt text in your photos. It helps people with low or no vision, it helps people with slow connections, and it's just a nice thing to do.
I've set my app (Fedilab) to warn me both if I try to toot an image without adding alt text and if I try to boost someone else's toot which contains an image without alt text. I understand that some other apps will let you do likewise. If the web interface doesn't, that seems like a great opt-in feature to add.
Anyway, thanks for listening, and if I didn't boost your toot, that might be why.
Throwing this out there to #AskFedi: my Wi-Fi router is old but still serviceable, but every night between about 10 and 2 the speed I get turns to absolute garbage. Is this a sign that I should buy a new router, or is this something others have experienced? The internet speed of my wired computer remains constant, but my phone Wi-Fi won't stream video worth a damn. #AdviceWanted #HelpWanted #BoostsWelcome
In light of the fact that they're going to reboot Harry Potter, remember that time that Jowling Kowling decided that canonically, before the invention of toilets wizards just shit themselves and magicked it away? And people still thought she was a brilliant author worthy of listening to?
JK Rowling is transphobe and if you watch Harry Potter you're explicitly supporting her transphobia. She's also at least probably antisemitic and racist. There are other books.

I've been told it varies based on strain, but the pot I've smoked has never been identified by strain. I do know I'm a cheap high. One toke and I'm floating on the ceiling. Which is nice, because my tolerance for everything else is super high.
Being drunk is highly overrated, imho. It never helped me escape my problems.
@2a70c54d
Definitely. It has helped me in the past to zone out though. When I was unmedicated for my anxiety it certainly helped that some. I've never found it to be all that effective at helping me sleep, but it helps the time pass more smoothly.
Conversely, drinking too much doesn't help me with my brain stuff at all, but it helped me sleep. I don't drink much anymore. Way too easy to abuse.
Can we please stop calling things "INSANE!!!" First off, no, it very rarely is. Second, it's ableist. Third, speaking as someone who is certifiably insane, it's a lot less exciting than you seem to think.
