Ai is going to be used to flood the internet with shit like this. It won’t be long before you can’t tell.

Check that, it’s actually already here, I think we just get lucky with ones like this from someone who isn’t super familiar with the tools.

How do you think we adapt to an internet where the overwhelming majority of stuff is fake? 🤔 nostr:note12hawr693exvwt8pff87qzk80n7zdgctds88m39f4ehgse90475dszfdudc
truth on the internet will be almost entirely ddos'd people will need to learn to not learn from the internet
Rely on stuff that AI can’t fake, like cryptographic signatures. This is at least somewhat bullish for nostr.
Public/Private key pairs, verifying messages and images are from someone you know in your local community or that you trust through your relationship with someone else

I also think that AI is just a wake up call - photoshop and other digital manipulation tools have already made so much stuff on the internet fake. AI just makes it more accessible to everybody

I’m sure if I redownloaded instagram I’d find that 20% of images in my feed are doctored in some way, and “photoshop” has been used in propaganda since before Stalin
 WoT

The Internet is going from global-first to heavily localized
 How do we establish WoT?

Bring back #Trustchain?
🤣🤷
 🤔🤔
 👻👻
The internet will be considered completely false by future generations.

What’s old will be new again- encyclopedias, books, pre-ai dated materials.
Don’t shoot the messenger, I didn’t create this!
I didn’t think you did at all, lol. Just bad wording I think. After a couple seconds I realized it was Ai and it got me wondering because first glance my brain said real. Immediately got me thinking how many images or even videos that I was seeing now that are legit fake and you can’t tell. It’s gonna get wild.
Yeah I completely understand, it’s definitely going to be interesting times ahead when we won’t be able to tell real from fake. You can however guarantee that most of the memes I post are completely fake…I’m just a shit-poster…literally 😂
Are you suggesting Marie doesnt know the tools to recognize this as an AI generated image used in a meme?
 Ummm @TheGuySwann please advise
lol, no I’m saying the person who created the image probably just copied and pasted from MidJourney or SD. It’s easy to fix or prevent with the right tools though without any extra work.
 🙏🙏
There is something about the truth that is special .

"Three things cannot long be hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth." ~ Confucius
Build a web of trust. Users are encouraged to post verifiably true content and damage reputation if they are deceitful.
Guy and sometimes the real is more ironic than the fake, this is real.

She knew it was AI generated. She was just posting a funny meme.
Everyone is misunderstanding. I’m talking about the meme creator 😆

And I did think it was funny, btw. I was just musing on the fact that it was hard to tell unless you really went looking. And my 2 second assumption told me it was a real image.

I read the post now and it kinda sounds serious, but I was legit just brain farting a thought about how good fake stuff is now. 😆

I am part of big cucumber propaganda
 🤙🤙
I posit we're already near the inflection point on Facebook.

When I visit, most of the images I'm shown are fake. And the normies lap it up. 😢

They don't know about "Don't trust; verify."
The overwhelming majority of stuff on the internet is already fake (or pointless) 🙃
The overwhelming majority of stuff on TV, radio, magazines, newspapers, is fake, and always has been. I never expected the internet to be any different.

Sometimes, you can squeeze a little truth out of any of these mediums. Just ask Agent K.
I think the bigger issue is the sheer volume. It will go from “targeted and controlled fake” to “explosive infinity fake everything.” I think within a year there will be more fake/Ai content on the internet than actual human generated content.
A good reason to avoid the internet
Not necessarily. I think Guy is being overly pessimistic on this. It's similar to the "AI is going to kill all humans" cowd talk, far too gloomy. Humans have a tendency to fear new/unfamiliar technologies & sometimes think the worst. I'd say governments with their goddamn censorship laws are more of a threat to the internet than anything else right now. P.S. I'm a big Guy Swann fan by the way! 👍
I’m not being pessimistic at all, lol. If it reads like that then it’s either just missing tone or is poorly worded. I literally am just curious on how people think we will adapt and what the new environment will look like. I for one love all the shit I can make with Ai, but it’s really fascinating to think what it could mean when generating basically anything has such an incredibly low barrier, that the idea of the open internet kinda doesn’t make sense anymore.

I certainly don’t think Ai is going to kill us all or make good content disappear. To the contrary, this is revolutionary for great content and human flourishing. But that will definitely come with enormous change. My musings are about how that change will unfold. 😁
Thanks Guy, I must have misunderstood your post. I'm excited for AI & am on the side of the accelerationistst & envision a far better world in the future, we just have to battle the doomsayers (& politicians) in the meantime. 👍
It’s just a question of how the internet will change, imo
Happy to live my odd reality on Nostr 🤙
 Touch grass
I don't mind the art so much. The LLM SEO bomb blog posts and articles when trying to research are getting annoying. Giant walls of very basic information put 4 different ways to get all the keywords in. Only the wordiness gives it away that it isn't just a mediocre human blogger.

They are in weird places too. I'd expect it in tech. Recently couldn't easily find an article about aquaculture written by a human who had actually grown something that way.
This is another reason why SEO I think stops working in a world with Ai. And why the web of trust model makes a lot of sense for weighing information.
As long as we reimplement it in modern software and don't go back to netscape navigator.
I'm not so good at detecting via the wordiness mainly because I always skimmed through long form posts in the past. Wonder if its too late for me on that front.
AI comments on posts will be my downfall. :(
it's almost like inflation right, uncapped fiat content
And this is only the harmless stuff. It gets real crazy when AI starts to target individuals. How do you want to defend against opinion spinning, phishing, or public discussion ddos attacks when you are confronted with content that manipulates you in subtle ways, uses your personal information, and reacts in real time?

Protecting your privacy and WoT can help. What else?
YouTube supposedly forcing labeling of generated content now. It could be the default in the near future where all generated content is labeled or detected and flagged somehow.
It’s getting so bad scammers are more successful, but it will drive people towards Bitcoin and Noster🤷🏽‍♂️ trying to warn my friends what’s coming but we have to find out on our own I guess
One possible outcome is the lines become increasingly blurred and the simulations we create start to seem just as real as the simulation we call reality.

Some “event” that happened in a virtual environment could make headlines and be as geopolitically important as one that happened in meatspace.
If AI can be used to create this useless crap, can’t it also be used to create moderation tools to show you things of actual value?
