I am getting so bullish on this algorithmic relay 🔥
Now it personalizes the feed for each npub, it looks at which people you react, comment and zap the most and surfaces their content more
So it doesn't just look at what notes are most popular on the whole network, it looks at what people and notes you tend to engage with the most
It also builds on top of WoT relay, only considering trusted engagements to try to prevent gaming the algorithm
Can't wait to show you all how it works 🧑💻🧑💻
Very interested to look into this. Is it responding to the queries from clients based on that criteria and serving that data based on your algo rather than timestamp?
Clients only ask us for date range and a limit, and we return notes in an order we believe is best. It doesn't consider whether you follow or not, and will sometimes not return notes from people you follow etc
Most clients sort by created at by default but I'm bullish on sorting by order returned from relay. 🔥
They'll update for this I'm confident
WE WILL BUILD THE RELAYS

So you've re-created the dreaded "algorithm" that normies keep complaining about ;)
Shouldn’t algos rather been built at the client layer? How would users benefits from algo filtering if they are connected to relay who don’t run the algo logic?
Definitely shouldn't be client, it requires insane amounts of data, basically a view of the entire network
Clients will need to develop a special view for loading algo relay feeds
Most clients also run relays so they would have access to the data. So if I connect to a relay that run the algo logic and other relays that don’t run the logic, how is my timeline being filtered?
No clients also run relays. A client exists on your device, a relay exists on some server.
You would have a separate timeline only for the algo relay.
Got it. I meant to say that clients dev also run relays. As long as the clients offer various options for the timeline that sounds good to me.
Link?
Only pre-hype at this stage, just have a very crude prototype right now... will release code soon ™
definitely some cashu energy on this post
Very cool. Been wanting some options on that front
Where can I try it out?
Keen to explore new things as they arrive
I like how user-centric this concept is
(quite like nostr in general!)
Been waiting for an algo like this... 👀
algorithms are bad, aren't they? the good thing about nostr is that there are no algorithms, right?
The good thing about nostr is that it is open.
We are free to build and use it as we wish.
Agree! I just don't understand why some people are happy that there are no algorithms and advise to subscribe to everyone and read everything, while others dream of bringing back algorithms, but only "non-harmful" ones. I think there's nothing bad if clients will add the ability to filter unwanted content (self-censorship), create feeds based on your interests or automatic algorithmic feeds based on your interactions/likes/etc. Would be nice if there will be a choice!
IMO no, algorithms are just ways of sorting and filtering data. They are what makes the internet useful. My preference would be for algorithms I can control.
Sorry, Primal is so Primal...
Closed source, forced algos optimized to piss you off and cause addiction are bad
Open source, opt in algorithms that you control are... Less bad lol, but probably still addictive
Yes, I am talking about this contradiction, but I myself have nothing against algorithms if I can control them (turn them off).
chronological order of who you're following is an algo. being able to choose other ones from time to time is useful. being able to see the source code is very different than a company creating their own algo to make them more as revenue
I'm talking about roughly the same thing (see my answers in the thread). And also about the fact that some members of our community expressed a categorical opinion about the harm of algorithms in social networks, stating that Nostr is not like that.
without getting into nuisance, I think we're on the same page. I'm looking forward to browsing different algos to find my favorites
