algorithms are bad, aren't they? the good thing about nostr is that there are no algorithms, right?
The good thing about nostr is that it is open. We are free to build and use it as we wish.
Agree! I just don't understand why some people are happy that there are no algorithms and advise to subscribe to everyone and read everything, while others dream of bringing back algorithms, but only "non-harmful" ones. I think there's nothing bad if clients will add the ability to filter unwanted content (self-censorship), create feeds based on your interests or automatic algorithmic feeds based on your interactions/likes/etc. Would be nice if there will be a choice!
IMO no, algorithms are just ways of sorting and filtering data. They are what makes the internet useful. My preference would be for algorithms I can control.
Sorry, Primal is so Primal...
lol
Closed source, forced algos optimized to piss you off and cause addiction are bad Open source, opt in algorithms that you control are... Less bad lol, but probably still addictive
Yes, I am talking about this contradiction, but I myself have nothing against algorithms if I can control them (turn them off).
chronological order of who you're following is an algo. being able to choose other ones from time to time is useful. being able to see the source code is very different than a company creating their own algo to make them more as revenue
I'm talking about roughly the same thing (see my answers in the thread). And also about the fact that some members of our community expressed a categorical opinion about the harm of algorithms in social networks, stating that Nostr is not like that.
