RHR dunk on seedsigner was bullshit, I'll ignore it. Of course statelessness is not for routine spends. Freedom Tech for the win
it was not a dunk - seedsigner is an important and useful project - secure elements are additive - an extra layer of protection for private keys if an attacker gets physical access to a seed qr plate they can easily steal your money - if an attacker gets physical access to a cold card they need to break both secure elements to extract keys
Bro Seedsigner best practice is multisig or passphrase. Your characterization here is unnecessarily diminishing and not fairly steelmanning the use case trade offs Seedsigner opt for.
if you listened to the episode I said this - I have supported seedsigner for years and will continue to - people just want to make something out of nothing during a bear market
I appreciate your response, i just think if you had an extended dialogue with @SeedSigner he might have a different opinion about whether using a secure element is “additive”. It was invoking this argument that to me felt like a lack of steelmanning the Seedsigner perspective. Even with coldcard you’re probably storing an unencrypted analog seed phrase backup somewhere right? Steel plate or otherwise, so the argument that having seedQR laying around as a point of insecurity doesn’t feel fully thought through IMO. As a tool, Seedsigner offers a unique FOSS DIY solution that can play an integral role in many highly thoughtful approaches to cold storage. I won’t casually accept framing that the project is somehow lesser than coldcard (as implied by your statement that secure element is “additive”) when in fact many would disagree with this framing. Love you bud
It's all tradeoffs. SE comes with a lot of unacknowledged, ongoing trust in the company implementing and distributing devices that incorporate one (or more) SEs. I feel as though there is frequently a lot of nuance lost in these discussions that end up favoring the inherent marketing of SEs being "secure". I admittedly have a unique, less common perspective given my personal experiences. Both of you have made significant & valued contributions to SeedSigner over time, in different ways, so I havr nothing but love and appreciation for you both.
