@134318c2 It feels like no one in tech comprehends that people like their thing because it is the way it is. They can only see people using some other thing, and think "If we make our thing like that thing, we'll get *their* users."
@c3d7f019 What respectable tiktock addict would ever want to go to the wasteland of "you tube shorts" and see videos made by people who aren't following the tiktock aesthetic, pacing, narration style, loudness etc? When I make a tiktock it's nothing like the short calm videos I want to share here and on tumblr. But mostly I'm mad at how they change the link format and break everything.

When I work with clients as a marketing consultant, I straight up refuse to take any actions based on the rationale that someone else (especially a competitor) is doing it. Like we still analyze what competitors are doing and we still bring in other examples… but that’s mostly to get ideas for what might be possible. “They are doing it” is never a good enough justification. Actions need to come from knowing what customers want.
