There is no point in having a Nostr protocol if end-users are never aware of it in some way.
X protocol is better!
In what way is X protocol better?
end-users are already here, it's not only devs anymore.. things are popping up at every corner, this week alone has been crazy in terms of releases, so much going on that will attract so much more new users.. relax and enjoy the beauty we already have :)
if at least one end-user knows, thats enough...
Exactly 💯💯💯
I am surprised at this saying. Many people are using Nostr already. It is just a matter of time before Nostr would be an household name like X. So let's give this time.
I disagree, it's about incentives created by the protocol. It's not about understanding.
The synergies created by a protocol like nostr should be a gigantic driver. I had criticized Damus early on for not mentioning once "nostr" on the website but in the end it doesn't matter. If Damus would change the client to only talk to one company relay, all its users would already have their accounts that would be free of such a limitation. They can get aware of this as late as actual problems arise and that keeps the clients in line. They can try out the limits, maybe a bit of ads and a bit of censorship but if they overdo it, users figure it out and switch at almost zero switching cost as opposed to switching from a platform.
What prevents damus removing option to export your private keys?
Well, many of the current users will notice and many if not most will have their keys backed up and make noise if Damus did that.
How would Damus users know how to switch or even that they can switch?
They don’t switch when they are not!
you want me to actively encourage damus users to put their private keys in random apps that I can’t vouch for? Only to have their relay and contact notes erased? Do any other clients do this? Why is this about damus specifically?
thems fighting words. keep that Shitnostry out of Damus. Weve got your digital back @jb55
Lol there will be *many* different clients. Damus is just one small one in the grand scheme of things. Deep linking into other clients is still an unexplored problem. You don’t need to think about the underlying protocol when you can seamlessly link to things in different clients. We just don’t have a good way to do any of this stuff.
No, sir, if you read above you will see that I am talking about the hypothesis put forward by @LeoWandersleb in which Damus becomes a closed platform.
I will tell them
Generally speaking, the users need to know Nostr from the user interface first then they can get to know its protocol; less confusing this way.
Isn't the best protocols in which the user doesn't know what's running underneath.
The pleb users need to understand their pubkey is portable. Do they even need to be aware of relays? I'm not really sure. Otherwise they probably don't need to know more details the that. Non-pleb users with large followings will have a vested interest in understanding the protocol due to incentives though, there I agree with you.
most people just use the chrome or firefox or safair. they don't go around telling people that they're using hypertext transfer protocol.
Pffft maybe you don't
Hey can you please send me a communication over simple mail transfer protocol? I'll retrieve it via my post office protocol.
Post office protocol is lit 🔥🔥! Lemme get my old school writing device so I can sign the message
im talking about SMTP and POP 😁
Marketing is a swing, and a miss for nostr atm. Hopefully that will change at some point. There has to be a focus on what an end user demands. A quick example of how my business dealt with market demands. My industry is riddled with poor customer service. We read all the bad reviews for companies in our area, and %90 of them were poor customer service. Bad reviews aren’t just people gripping about a company. It’s potential clients telling an industry what they want from an industry. Address that, and you’re king in your industry. You offered something that people want. Does Nostr provide something people want? How much market research has been done to find out what most potential end users want? I wouldn’t expect much, or enough has been done tbh. I wouldn’t expect most would care much about privacy, bitcoin, censorship free, or a whole lot of what Nostr provides. That’s not to say those aren’t important. It is to say that if Nostr wants success to a point that it competes then keep all that is good already with Nostr, but more focus should be placed on what end user demands are. So outside of the Nostr bubble what are people talking about with social media? What are there complaints, what do they like. What would they improve? The largest number of those people probably don’t care about what Nostr is currently offering. Nostr needs to know what those people care about, and do that where it doesn’t interfere with its foundational principles. You can’t just say it’s superior so everyone will use it. Thats not how things work. I’m a pretty bad ass classical guitarist, but none of you knew that, and a lot of you might not believe me, because I didn’t market myself as such, and who likes classical guitar anyways. Some do for sure, but I’m not grabbing millions of views with it. I might do better to transpose some classical guitar songs over to an instrument that would be more appealing if I were to want a bigger audience, or I might do, and really I am doing in a since what nostr is doing. Just Jamin in my backyard hoping the neighbors will hear me, and call Carnegie Hall to tell them they really need me.
Just for the sake of it: Why should they? Depending on the targeted demographic, it might actually be easier to abstract things away. Do people care what HTTPS is while using Tiktok? Probably not - they care that their likes are received, comments processed and videos fed to them.
💯 every nostr user absolutely should be aware of the fact they can login to ANY #nostr app using the same secret code. nostr:nevent1qqs8pd7nj6ptugfkk7vuytqlzmdcmds5h5xtxjlg0vf07m2axcfzaecpp4mhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mqzyqalp33lewf5vdq847t6te0wvnags0gs0mu72kz8938tn24wlfze6qcyqqqqqqglr8xq9
