Yea... This is really the big downside of lightening... It is so hard to find a wallet you can trust, then when you are happy with one - it either shuts down for some reason or implements a paywall. It is not feasible for a regular person to host their own. My spouse and I tried. Having an extra device can be expensive and time consuming. And once we did get one - half the time it was down for some reason, the other half there was some error we couldn't decypher... And there was always "dust" leftover from an open channel where funds have run low and become unusable. It really adds up. Ugh.
Lightning is cool but I have other bills that have to get paid every month. Emergency room visit bill Doctor copays Physical therapy bill Credit card bills Phone bill Paying an additional 10,000 sat bill each month just so people can send me a total of less than 1000 sats per month becomes like a credit card bill because I’m constantly going to be paying more than what I’m getting in return. “Learn how to do it yourself” is not an option because I don’t have another device to use. I’m not leaving my computer on 24 hours a day. That’s all.
For 1000 sats per month but also 10000 sats, a custodial wallet is more than fine, Minibits or Coinos can replace Alby very well.
