Unfortunately I’ve decided to leave Alby.
Aside from any argument about sats vs USD, I don’t have the hardware or knowledge to run my own node and i can’t afford 20k sats or $20 per month for cloud hosting because I just don’t have that much fiat OR sats.
If I was generating enough sats from my content here on Nostr or my sewing projects or art commissions then it’d be a different story but I’m not.
Alby IS an awesome service, works like a charm, it’s just not feasible for me right now. When I can afford it, I’ll return. Just can’t now even at the half-off discount.
I understand you very well my friend, I am also in a period of testing Alby Hub. I am trying to use my Mac mini as a node, in a few months I will decide whether to continue or not.
If I had a machine to host my own node then maybe I would try, but I don’t have one yet. Like I said it’s a really streamlined service and seemed to work great but I just can’t afford it.
When the bitcoin prices rises, we can adjust the prices when denominated in bitcoin. That's the cool thing when it comes to a deflationary currency like bitcoin.
Have you looked into these options to run a Hub? https://guides.getalby.com/user-guide/alby-account-and-browser-extension/alby-hub/alby-hub-flavors
or you find someone who creates a subaccount for you on their own Hub.

Please see my note above that states this pretty clearly.

I DONT HAVE AN EXTRA DEVICE THAT I CAN LEAVE ON 24/7.

I DONT HAVE AN EXTRA 20,000 SATS OR $20 PER MONTH FOR CLOUD HOSTING.
Yea... This is really the big downside of lightening... It is so hard to find a wallet you can trust, then when you are happy with one - it either shuts down for some reason or implements a paywall.
It is not feasible for a regular person to host their own. My spouse and I tried. Having an extra device can be expensive and time consuming. And once we did get one - half the time it was down for some reason, the other half there was some error we couldn't decypher... And there was always "dust" leftover from an open channel where funds have run low and become unusable. It really adds up. Ugh.
Lightning is cool but I have other bills that have to get paid every month.
Emergency room visit bill
Doctor copays
Physical therapy bill
Credit card bills
Phone bill

Paying an additional 10,000 sat bill each month just so people can send me a total of less than 1000 sats per month becomes like a credit card bill because I’m constantly going to be paying more than what I’m getting in return.

“Learn how to do it yourself” is not an option because I don’t have another device to use. I’m not leaving my computer on 24 hours a day. That’s all.
For 1000 sats per month but also 10000 sats, a custodial wallet is more than fine, Minibits or Coinos can replace Alby very well.
“Learn how to host it yourself or pay for cloud hosting” was your advice to me a few months ago by the way.
