@7b682b86 It feels like Simmons is a bit forgotten now, undeservedly.
@2380fc4b That's tragic. Readers can be fickle, it would seem. Then again, a lot of great authors have faded, then been reevaluated.
@7b682b86 @2380fc4b Idk, maybe it's because he wrote such diverse stuff? I read the Hyperion Cantos, too, and loved it (okay, there is some weird stuff, especially the MC's relationship with the girl in Endymion, but otherwise it was such a cool story!). I immediately looked for more Dan Simmons's books.

The next one I read was a kind of right-wing dystopia (I mean, the ideas were right-wing) where climate change was a hoax. It was so gloomy & depressing, I didn't enjoy it at all.
@7b682b86 @2380fc4b And then I read a horror story by him, which was good, but not for me. And again, it was so depressing and I was left feeling so bad that I've never tried to read any of his books again 😅
@d73175df @2380fc4b Thank you for the warning! As it happens, those four books are all of his that I've ever read. My venturing into science fiction has been limited, especially compared to other genres. In fact, I can't remember the last one I read. 😃
@7b682b86 @2380fc4b He has more books, so maybe they're fine! 😁 The ones I read were Flashback (right-wing dystopian fever fears) and Song Of Kali (horror).
@d73175df @2380fc4b He's entitled to his views, but I won't be reading those. Thanks for the info! 😃
@d73175df @7b682b86 I don’t know that one and it doesn’t sound like I want to check it out.
@2380fc4b @7b682b86 I don't recommend it 😆 I really didn't expect it from him — the right-wing ideas were so pervasive and on-the-nose! Idk what happened to him when he wrote this book 😅
