The tech company my daughter works for announced 25% staff layoffs today. She was spared, but I fear this is a sign of more of this coming. Her workload just doubled, but her pay did not move an inch - and now she is afraid to take the planned time off for a friend’s wedding in another state. US companies are squeezing every last drop out of their people for greater profits.
@0548cb44 awww, young folks.... the nerve to still want a few days off to travel to a friend's marriage ceremony The boss would most likely say, "it's an old ritual, a silly social gesture without intrinsic purpose, you want to do that? No wonder 😬half of the young folk in the US are married now (I think I read that here on Mastodon last week) https://www.axios.com/2023/02/25/marriage-declining-single-dating-taxes-relationships https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/111/061/782/458/436/617/original/ca23fd6954048b5c.jpg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/111/061/782/732/167/901/original/531b8a58592a52a5.jpg
@0548cb44 the smart thing to do is take the time off and find a new job. Once such a large layoff hits, morale tanks, and the remaining staff get burned out by the increased workload. You can't live in that kind of environment, knowing you can't trust any of your managers to tell you the truth, etc. Companies run that way don't deserve to recover.
