First attempt at making my own beef bone broth. I had been wanting to try this for a while but wasn’t keen on leaving a pot on the gas stove for 24-48 hours. I started looking into the option of using a slow cooker but then discovered that it was also possible to make a successful broth in a pressure cooker. There seems to be some debate around whether some nutrients are lost using this method due to the higher temperatures or if it actually preserves nutrients due to the shorter cooking time, but either way it is probably better than a lot of store bought options.

This was the result of 4 hours cooking a mix of grass fed beef bones in the pressure cooker. It tastes pretty good and after refrigeration it came out very thick and gelatinous. Overall I’m happy with this for a first attempt. https://i.nostr.build/y24uI1DJOnMT3M8F.jpg https://i.nostr.build/TuoLsyFOUEPixjEE.jpg

Well done! It’s definitely bone broth season!
 Looks amazing
Are you drinking it or eating it? I purchased some beef bone broth and put ground beef in it like a soup. It was good and a good to change things up. 🥩
I plan on a bit of both. I started drinking some bone broth a couple of months ago when I was sick with the flu but also use it for cooking. I sometimes do things like braised beef ribs in bone broth for example.
Nothing wrong with the pressure cooker other than the smaller size.

I usually cook my broth down to concentrate it & then set it in the fridge before cubing it & freezing.
I bought the 8 litre Instant Pot so the capacity actually isn’t too bad. It’s not that much smaller than the largest pot I currently have for the stove anyway. I also want to try other things like braised beef and lamb shanks in the pressure cooker.
Yeah my biggest pot is about 40L - you can get a lot of bones in there.

I use my pressure cooker for rice & potatoes mostly. Occasionally I'll do a curry in there because it dissolves the gelatinous tissue without breaking apart the meat cubes.

They're certainly useful
