@6b43cb18 @14242b3f Some Black people quit Mastodon, because someone asked them for the 3rd time that day "Can you show me some evidence of racism?" Even though that 3rd ask might just be a proactive mod, hearing that Black users are being harmed, and looking for a report to act on.🤷🏿♂️ A lot of it is misunderstanding, and unseen experiences. We can increase understanding and create a shared experience just by clarifying two things: 1) existence of troll instances 2) reply visibility issues
@af2dd916 @14242b3f If a POC says that she experiences racism or misogyny, my instinct is to believe her. Provisionally believe someone claiming to be a victim. Because odds are that she is, and it is the better default assumption anyway. The paucity of Black users is good enough evidence. I used to directly ask for some evidence--not to judge their veracity--but to either confront or ban/block the asshole(s). Often got the response that "it was my typical white male privilege at play."
@6b43cb18 - My protocol is firstly to believe it. If I can see it, I report it. If I can't, I check the original page (three dots, open original page url, depending on the software the menu might be different). If the page has been moderated, I won't see it; but it still assume it happened. If it's still visible, I can attempt to copy it into my local and report and ask the for the report to be passed on if possible. Maybe a note that the server or user is already suspended on my local. But that... is a lot. Not sure what an automated version of that would look like, or how it would function, and if it would be easy enough to use for regular folk. But we should be thinking about it. And certainly we should fix that damn mastodon specific blocking bug. That's inexcusable. @af2dd916 @14242b3f
