Do we need a name for fediverse+bluesky+nostr+others? Something *verse maybe the multiverse or since it’s not the thing but about the thing the metaverse? nostr:note1l8zpd3f98ydsuqwmrz2xr3fjuher09hneu3aktq68vl5alcmusrsp5ehaa
The metaverse involves real-time interactions. Fediverse+nostr+Bluesky have no real-time interactions.
Things like zap.stream and nostr nests are real time. The metaverse quip was a joke. :)
In 2010 (iirc), I simply called everything as #DDFON or the “Decentralised, Distributed, Federated, Open, Network”. It covers everything. Last year, I started calling DDFON as #MycelialWeb and the different networks as #Mycelium or #MyceliumNetwork. This based on the idea someone submitted in my polls over the #Fediverse (sadly gone, the instances where I conducted the polls are now offline, thought there should still be some copy/archive somewhere). In nature, a mycelium is a network of mycelia. And a collection of mycelium network is called mycelial. So: * #XMPP Mycelium network * #Matrix Mycelium network * #ActivityPub Mycelium network (or simply Fediverse) * #ATproto Mycelium network (or simply #BlueSky / #Bsky) * #Nostr Mycelium network * #Diaspora Mycelium network * and so on. And together, these are called the #Mycelial Web. If the above is confusing, another option is to go back to the umbrella term that was used since 2005, and somehow fell out of use: the #SocialWeb. The umbrella term is: Social Web. And within it are the different mycelium networks. Or, “technically”, DDFON (Decentralised, Distributed, Federated, Open, Network). ^_~ #YourOnlyOne
for Nostr and Fediverse yes, but Bluesky should be grouped together with Gab and other platforms for specific political groups
I didn't get a notification over there that you quoted me here. thats an issue I hadn't thought of in the bridge, I wonder if thats even tracked yet.
Mastodon doesn’t handle reposts and mention posts very well.
you shared my Bluesky post so this has nothing to do with Mastodon (: and everything to do with Bridgy
I don’t thinks so. Open Social Web works for me. I don’t think ‘verse is needed
Mastodon, Peertube, PixelFed, etc. are not really compatible. These are several loosely coupled protocols. So we can simply include Nostr and Bluesky in the Fediverse term.
The closest anyone has gotten is "Social Web", which is somehow less bad than all the others. I kind of like thinking of this whole thing as a constellation, or an ecosystem. "Fediverse" will always be personal for me, as it's part of my own journey with technology, but I'll admit that I am always fond of it.
When "Social Web" was first proposed, I was kind of grossed out because so many aspects that meant something to me felt diminished. It felt like something was missing. I sarcastically suggested we called it "Womp Triangle", because on the surface it's equally meaningless. We shitposted a lot during FediForum, and now this abomination exists. https://www.womptriangle.online/
