My friend likes to add a bit of French vanilla non-dairy creamer to her coffee and asked me to look at the ingredients to see if it’s healthy or not.

Creamer is an ounce-for-ounce contender for the worst food on the planet.

The ingredients are: sugar water, water, sugar, seed oil, isolated milk protein, and chemicals.

One of my least favorite routine things about modern society is how comically bad our food is. People look back at how bad it was having cocaine in Coca Cola and stuff like that, but when you add all processed food together in a typical person’s daily consumption, it’s arguably worse than that. https://image.nostr.build/6fd44ff30d545bf9d7b24088da42c5dfde50fba901643fcff6fb4fa96b44c0da.jpg
Like how about “ingredients: milk, vanilla”
That probably existed somewhere in the store at some point, but was 100x the cost of this crap, and since no one bought it cuz it was relatively expensive, that company went bankrupt.
Always read the ingredients. Also, look for fresh and non processed food.
I agree that ingredients should be simpler. Especially since that looks to be a "sugar free" creamer, I'm assuming based on the use of sucralose. I prefer not sugar free because of the fake sugary taste. Anyway, I feel like those additional ingredients and chemicals are probably to do with shelf life and our grocery store model.

There was probably a time when you could get just milk creamer with some sugar in it. But I'm guessing it would go bad pretty quickly? And with how "streamlined" the manufacturing is, I bet that gets expensive quickly.

So I think that's the trade off? We'll add some preservatives and you get it for cheaper and it'll go bad less rapidly. But I think folks should have the option for it if they choose to! I'm no food expert but I'm guessing it goes something like that.
 It is frankly hilarious 😂
Well, presumably she wanted non-dairy for a reason. She lactose intolerant? Vegan?

But yes, just cream & vanilla would be far superior.
 Don’t forget seaweed! (carrageenan)
And when you buy the foods at the store with the least amount of ingredients, all of which are normal foods and legitimate, especially if it’s not packaged in plastic, it’s the most expensive item on the shelf.
Mmmm corn syrup. The number one contributor to American obesity. But hey, Those corn farms still quality for a loan.
 Bring back the coke.
I was gonna say "put the coke back into cola" 🤣
I thought it was actually good how they had coke in cola 😂
Talk about a real pick-me-up drink.
"She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie..." EC
Whiskey cokes must’ve been amazing back in the day 😂😂😂😂
but but it makes me happy
What you put in your mind is far more important than what you put in your mouth, simply because there is no absolute right or wrong, only how you perceive things.💜
I read a study that people can eat poorly but be in loving relationships and be super healthy...all in the mind
 💯

Almost every corner cut in every facet of society from the money to the food to our institutions to our relationships.
Honestly at least it is high Oleic...
Plain old double cream in my coffee please…
 *sigh*
And it is not just food. And in the grand scheme it is not a coincidence and not unintentional. Just check this beauty from Greg out. Every word is 100% true end to the point:

Absolutely. Extremely sketchy when they name the thing after the container of the thing... like country crock.
 The best coffee, just plain
 It’s poison!
We found a local that has raw milk available so we’re trading our homemade lard for their milk. We make yogurt and also separate the cream for making butter and adding to coffee. Amazing difference from buying in the store.
 This is the way
Raw milk is the real deal
This is what I get as I think it is the best flavored creamer on the market. The ingredients are the best, it's non-dairy, and comes in a number of flavors. Califia makes a LOT of good products.

Even crazier are the little room-temperature creamers with a 60 year shelf life 🤯
Drop the er, use the cream!
I couldn't agree more. A recent Huberman episode with Robert Lustig covers this topic very well. https://youtu.be/n28W4AmvMDE?si=di919nJadDtP4nBb

Doesn’t get more fiat science than Layne Norton. The dude thinks seed oils are either neutral or beneficial cause some fiat research papers said so.
I’ve never seen him say beneficial. I’ve mostly seen him say people miss the mark cuz they demonize an oil type instead of just acknowledging the caloric surplus. I get a sense he’s a rigorous researcher. Maybe to his detriment. As in he doesn’t connect dots and just operates under ‘only individual research papers are truth by themselves’.

I don’t have the time or education to refute any pro nutritionist 🤷🏻 I don’t trust him but I think some of his logic and work has merit.
He is probably well intention, but I agree he probably does not connect the dots and bases most if not all of his opinions on what research says.

The nutrition space is a mess. It boils down to eating the highest quality animal foods you can get and avoiding plant foods as necessary, which changes from person to person. Anything more than that is diminishing returns and window dressing imo
I agree it’s a mess. I’ve found it frustrating to source reliable info. A carnivore diet that works immaculately for someone could give another person chronic seizures. I believe fiber from plants can provide value to some. You’re sounding like a Shawn Baker maximalist but I’m not gonna jump to conclusions.

More recently I’ve been compelled by nutritional theory around the idea that food is an electromagnetic “barcode” printed by the sun, directly or indirectly. It makes sense cuz all food traces back to the sun. This means we may eat optimally by eating hyper-local whole foods because our bodies get the same solar signaling. Epigenetics and methylation probably play a big role too. The major problem seems to be so many western people are so far removed from nature’s signals that we’ve evolved with, their bodies and mitochondria are barely limping along to metabolize the nutrients it should know how to.
Shawn Baker maximalism would be stakes all day every day, which ls hardly what I said. Animal foods are unquestionably necessary thrive. Plant foods have toxins and anti-nutrients that affect people differently, hence my comment to remove or avoid as needed. At the end of the day everyone had to fine tune general guidance and make it work for them. Arguing over nutrition once you get past the fiat fuckery with processed foods is a waste if time imo if one is healthy
 cocaine is great

its all this other stuff that is the problem
There's a lot of buzz around your post.
Added to the https://nostraco.in/hot feed
don’t get why people put stuff in coffee in the first place. but yea, fuck the fda heh
No one looks back at having cocaine in coca-cola as a bad thing... only that they don't anymore
All of that should have been already surmised by the words "French Vanilla non-dairy creamer."
Yes I'll have the Italian Garlic non-meat steak, please.
Do you put anything in your matcha? Creamer or otherwise?
You can't expect fake dairy to not have goofy ingredients. Use cream.
The entire point of food engineers is to answer the question:

"What chemicals can we mix with carboard so that people will be fooled into eating it?"

Sometimes, if they are good enough, they won't even need any cardboard...
It's incredible how they can make soybean oil, high fructose syrup, soy lecithin, antifungal agents, carcinogenic coloring stabilizers, and fluoridated water taste like anything.
its time to grow your own turnips
Brave Summariser will gladly explain the advantages of creamer over milk for you

https://search.brave.com/search?q=creamer+vs+milk&source=android

But in the end why worry about something that you consume a mere 15ml of.
And you don't see this as a direct result of capitalism and a market based society?
How to easily find a good "simple" products in this sea of cheap to produce shelf life optimized items? I got nothing 🤷‍♂️
Carrageenan is inflammatory; they actually use it to induce inflammation when studying efficacy of NSAIDS like ibuprofen.
 💯
 Did you read ‘fiat food’?

I can highly recommend it.

It appears like an extension of chapter 8 of the fiat standard.

But it’s more. Is a crime like the orient express.

The author matthew lysiak is a criminal detective and reveals in detail how the devaluation of the currency and the food go along.

https://thesaifhouse.com/
Excellent choice , though I didn't read myself, I listened to his interview on Saif's podcast late last year.
An audiobook is also available. Read by Lysiak and Saif.
 GM!

Always read the ingredients before buying stuff from the supermarket. Most food with a brand is junk.

I'm back in Europe after many years in LATAM, and I'm shocked by the difference in food quality in supermarkets. Packages respect the list of ingredients and don't try to fools you, some tell you where each ingredient comes from and how it was grown, raised and fed. GMOs are banned, and even the cheapest discount food products looks like what is sold in average quality at a high price in Latin America.
anybody who would deliberately put fake something into their body deserves to die and will.
How can it be called "non-dairy" with milk derivative in it?
Wow, that's bad. Why don't they just use REAL cream.
Hey it could be worse, at least there’s no dairy.
😆
I appreciate that it has all permutations of sugar and water 😅
The first three ingredients are glorious
My secret just for Lyn . I add a little of this thick- thick stuff to my daily coffee. This is Cosmic heaven 🪽

 wen high-fructose cocaine syrup?
Literally one of the unhealthiest stuff ever. Disgusting 🤮
Funny that she asked you to look and didn't bother herself, or that she knew, and had a few more cups while you went down the rabbit hole.
Most people can afford the unhealthy option. I lived across two restaurants in Brooklyn, one Chinese, and the other had a significant change in ownership within a short span of years. Back then $5.50 would get you half a chicken with fries and an iced tea. Forget the other guy who was from the Caribbean and priced his much healthier meals at $8.00, not including drinks.
I like my coffee like I like my women.
Meyenberg makes a powdered goat milk that is making a good transition off of creamer possible for me. https://image.nostr.build/73e6e8d90350d3c1f1d13b66924e56efcee1c8aec445e664d370d800146cade6.jpg
