New truth: investing time & money into a Nostr audience is worth it for true leverage in the physical world

Imagine a scenario in which your local government doesn’t like your views or opinions

They decide to try & forcefully remove you from your land or close your business

Due to having the ability to speak to a digital audience, which (& this is the critical point) cannot be censored

You would be able to shine a light on their nefarious action (which in itself is also a deterrent)

Google & Meta etc would be happy to cancel or shadow ban you in a flash
#NOSTR #PlanB soon to be executed
 Good idea!
Even if you make money as a YouTube or ticktock influencer, it makes sense to maintain a nostr presence.

If you're ever cancelled, your fans can still find you & your content.

It's a bit like Bitcoin in that you need it before the SHTF.
 Bang on.

The question I have, how does one justify going “all in” on Nostr only?

Content creation to an extent is valuable due to attention

By cutting yourself off to potential eyeballs on other platforms

You need to have a really good reason to do so

(Maybe you don’t need any reason. You just do it. & build the world you want to see…)
It depends on why you use social media. It's purely a personal decision .

Some generate their only income from it. You'd be silly to cut yourself off from existing revenue sources on purely ethical grounds.

If you're starting out, you could focus your attention on nostr while also trying to milk engagement revenue elsewhere.

Nostr favors authentic expression though. I'm not sure you could so easily move between nostr & centralised consumption platforms.

I like the way Lyn Alden does the dance & she always seems authentic over here. She's using Twitter primarily as a source of information though. She's not trying to generate income over there (as far as I can tell).

Nostr is still pretty new. I'm not sure how quickly it will grow & where we'll end up. I'm not sure anyone (even devs) are living purely on zaps.
The pure zap economy is def not there yet from what I see

But your point is a good one. Are you using it for information, entertainment, and a sense of community

Or are you looking at it for some kind of commercial purpose

They’re very different things

My initial thought is that if I took the commercial angle away then it would be easy to go Nostr only
Agreed we don’t have to demonize the traditional social media, we can use it to promote Nostr. I’m actually very new to this, and I already brought people through other traditional social media.
