Great. We are now all criminals. 🙄 "Open-source devs building non-custodial tools can be held responsible for criminal activity when crim. actors cannot be stopped or deanonymized" I really wish this girl would post more on #nostr. will someone please help get her off Elon hell? 😆 https://m.primal.net/IGim.png https://x.com/L0laL33tz/status/1790385855556698448
This is not true... Tornado cash had a shitcoin token, they ran a sever that was used for mixing. Writing software and posting on github is very different than running it on a server and knowing it is used for criminals purposes..!
Can any lawyers or ppl with informed legal opinion weigh in on this? https://m.primal.net/IGim.png
Van Valkenburgh has balanced perspectives, usually. Dutch law seems far looser on criminal intent than US. Respect for the First Amendment and freedom of speech is still strong. But the chilling effect is real. Which is why @Open Source Justice Foundation is starting a Developer Defense Fund. https://image.nostr.build/b8308212f9907af113e8374bd07ab3e9b1f85bb9274965877fb31156c865cdfe.jpg
Time for another crypto wars. With the difference that this time we have a western wave of censorship and love towards totalitarianism. Cryptography and anonymity are our best and strongest weapons. nostr:nevent1qqs0c5xra4v57g4007gtm6vlqhn60fpe4hh69uwvrfv4jgd52fghmscpp4mhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mqzyqu83k2ak7u9fsaq6wedddaln0egkdsk90nyxfh42gd6w88nk3dxjqcyqqqqqqgadgpzf
They put Ross Ulbricht away for life, in not too dissimilar circs. Looks like a life on the ocean wave is the only place to be. Arhh. 🦜🏴☠️
gun manufacturers get held liable all the time. my employer got held liable to the tune of $600,000 for something a customer did in their own home. gun manufacturers bad, home heating oil companies bad, software developers bad. its a Maoist cultural revolution.
Agree 100% that eCash is in the same category. That is why I am working with Calle to write Auth spec for minting/melting tokens. Why haven't they go after the team/people of Electrum? Electrum is not running any servers nor getting direct monetary benefit from the software. In both Samurai and tornado cash, they monetarily benefited from money moving in their servers. Entire lightning network size is about $400M. So it is small for them now. Once it crosses $1B they will start to go after.
No money was moved in Samourai's servers. The coordinator was just that, a coordinator, at no point did the coordinator have any control of funds.
it doesn't matter. Only we care about technical nuances. They ask a simple question. Did you monetarily benefit from helping bad people?
Moving the overton window does matter. Adopting their words, and their frame of evaluating freedom tech is the losing strategy.

now all software has to be published anonymously just to bypass this
