 #nostrverse 🤙🏼
 @captain ☦️ compromised

NOSTR users hate free speech lol
Yes we're going to shadowban you now 😂

When I joined Nostr, Twitter Refugees were wanting relay and app censorship
Those people will probably find their home on Bluesky

Yeah or Mastodon. Do you know why Jack deleted his BS account?
Are there a lot of platforms using nostr?
More like a lot of micro apps I would say. It bridges to the Fediverse quite seamlessly, and the integration will be even better with the new Ditto platform.
Are you responding using the nostr protocol right now?
Yep, my posts on Nostr federate to the Fediverse over the Mostr bridge that @Alex Gleason built
Awesome! Yeah, I’ve seen him post about it (Mostr) but I don’t understand what’s different or what makes it better. Do you have any info links?

Thanks! I’m watching a podcast on it now - will watch this next.
One way to think about Nostr is as a system that can distribute the benefits of owning your data and identity which you enjoy as a single user instance owner to many more people.
I don’t understand what makes it different from activitypub.
Every client signs events and the events are stored with redundancy on servers (relays)
Ok, that’s interesting. Like a blockchain.
Yes, anyone who has used a web 3 wallet is familiar with the signing. There is an important difference though, it doesn't need global consensus like a blockchain. That was a big unlock for me when I discovered Nostr because this a way to build truly decentralized applications without the costs and scaling limitations of a blockchain. Looking back on previous efforts to do social media on a blockchain (like Bitclout), they seem really silly/scammy now.
Now I’m nerding out about nostr. I still love the fediverse but it’s not actually web3 is it? You can take your profile and migrate it on a json file but it’s not the same and the possibilities aren’t scalable. I need to experiment more. I’ve played with so many platforms. More than anything I want to stay with one. Opening my own instance on the fedi has been a solution.
I think Nostr can be the real Web 3.0, aka https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semantic_Web as opposed to Web3 which I see as marketing hype for blockchain tokens. In regards to migration, a Nostr profile is truly portable because the signed events can exist on any relay. There is a trade off though, because a compromised private key means starting over.

Just for the microblogging aspect, there's probably not a compelling reason to switch platforms again when running your own instance already gives you the benefit of being in control of your data and online identity.

It will be interesting to see how the "other stuff" side of Nostr develops, where it can offer alternatives to all kinds of centralized media and commerce apps.
I love parallel economies and the potential is a complete escape from Big Tech. One nice aspect of fedi apps is the ability to post private or to followers only. It seems everything on nostr is a public relay. Do any of the clients allow for private feeds/posts/groups? Groups are coming to masto and pixelfed soon (from what I hear).
@Vitor Pamplona is working on this:

nostr:nevent1qqsxes7e7r773kttrjjf3kw98pahz430jkn999jxuqsnw3qq7gprslcpr4mhxue69uhhxatsv4e8getnw3hx2apwdehhxarjxyhxxmmdqgsyvrp9u6p0mfur9dfdru3d853tx9mdjuhkphxuxgfwmryja7zsvhqrqsqqqqqplhuysh
Group DMs is the only feature that has been released. Relays tend to hate private stuff, so it has been somewhat of a slog to build momentum.

Maybe the next class of relays will do private events only. Who knows..
Thank you for making the internet a better place.
@hodlbod is also trying to build more private functionality on Nostr:

This is going to be the content of my last tweet.😜
I opened a test account through Iris and pulled up my account on my phone through Amethyst. Very cool. How did you see my post coming from fedi? I know there’s a mostr bridge but how do I access the fedi through my nostr profile? I tried searching but…nothing.
Add wss://relay.mostr.pub to your relay selection
