Now I’m nerding out about nostr. I still love the fediverse but it’s not actually web3 is it? You can take your profile and migrate it on a json file but it’s not the same and the possibilities aren’t scalable. I need to experiment more. I’ve played with so many platforms. More than anything I want to stay with one. Opening my own instance on the fedi has been a solution.
I think Nostr can be the real Web 3.0, aka https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semantic_Web as opposed to Web3 which I see as marketing hype for blockchain tokens. In regards to migration, a Nostr profile is truly portable because the signed events can exist on any relay. There is a trade off though, because a compromised private key means starting over.

Just for the microblogging aspect, there's probably not a compelling reason to switch platforms again when running your own instance already gives you the benefit of being in control of your data and online identity.

It will be interesting to see how the "other stuff" side of Nostr develops, where it can offer alternatives to all kinds of centralized media and commerce apps.
I love parallel economies and the potential is a complete escape from Big Tech. One nice aspect of fedi apps is the ability to post private or to followers only. It seems everything on nostr is a public relay. Do any of the clients allow for private feeds/posts/groups? Groups are coming to masto and pixelfed soon (from what I hear).
@Vitor Pamplona is working on this:

nostr:nevent1qqsxes7e7r773kttrjjf3kw98pahz430jkn999jxuqsnw3qq7gprslcpr4mhxue69uhhxatsv4e8getnw3hx2apwdehhxarjxyhxxmmdqgsyvrp9u6p0mfur9dfdru3d853tx9mdjuhkphxuxgfwmryja7zsvhqrqsqqqqqplhuysh
Group DMs is the only feature that has been released. Relays tend to hate private stuff, so it has been somewhat of a slog to build momentum.

Maybe the next class of relays will do private events only. Who knows..
Thank you for making the internet a better place.
@hodlbod is also trying to build more private functionality on Nostr:
