 If I only used things made by people I liked, I'd be banging rocks together and wearing possum skins.

Mike's take was a very uninformed one. Fact.

But this cancel culture BS needs to stay on Xitter.

If you like his work, use it. Its what FOSS is all about.
 lol, anyone who bandies around the expression bigot is one

and not only is she a bigot she'll probably reply to this message with some threat and accusation about me following her around like i pick my mere 38 follows just to see her

if you lack nuance and can't recognise the finer points of it - such as the inherent biological biases of gender - then it is you who lacks understanding not the one who points out the difference is visible in social media

focusing on the person instead of engaging with the conversation is bigotry

the subject of outbox model versus broadcast propagation is one that needs to be resolved because, as i see it, this lack of clear distinctions - DISCRIMINATION - is the problem

public = broadcast

private = outbox

*braces for the inevitable butthurt reply*
 Nah, she muted both of us long ago.

She has shown nuance and high intelligence in other posts, but something about Mike's specific post triggered her hard and she doesnt seem to want to take ownership and move on.

Oh well.

At least we prevented this thread from becoming a pile-on on one of Nostr's best developers.
 yeah, this is why i'm not a big fan of girls with pretentions to credibly talking about engineering
 I'm not a fan of anyone talking too long about things they don't understand.

Ava, OTOH, is frequently insightful. I hope this is her one bad day.
 well, just to explain how i came to perceive her as i do, it has to do with following bad security advice from companies selling inadequate products

i've been following Schneier et al since around 2003 or so and was involved in early discussions around Tor and it makes me so annoyed when people parrot nonsense that is contrary to the facts of the subject of cybersecurity, and doubly, to the point i have to deploy smackdown, when they claim to be an expert on the subject

i don't spend my time writing about it all the time, because mostly i'm actually applying what i know to my programming work
 I've been following Schneier only half as long as yourself, but even he has some dumb takes every so often.

People seem to need to be reminded to think about what they're reading, and disagree if necessary. Glad you're not among them!
 yes, first rule of cybersecurity is

TRUST NO ONE

always DYOR and Don't Trust, Verify, etc

it's hilarious to have to point that out to people who claim to be bitcoiners
 also, yeah, schneier's been pretty bad for about 5 years now... same political bullshit that i saw happen to boingboing.net and all its authors suddenly being very keen on writing against non-left wing politics, look also at what happened to Nassim Taleb, same fucking bullshit

makes me really wonder, how one would go about inducing these previously mostly reasonable people to start acting as hand wavers for your agenda?
 indeed, and i should point out, i'm not picking on her because of what her chromasomes are, plenty of XXs on here have got some fire from me as well, you can even see a couple of them still mute me

if i were to go easy on someone because of such a thing that would make me a bigot

going easy on a beginner is different... easy way to avoid sounding like an idiot is to admit you are a beginner, or that you are just thinking out loud or talking through your hat, probably

nothing grinds my gears more than people pretending to be experts and saying utterly dumbshit
 oops, I meant XYs but whatever
