huch?! in alby you have multiple since day one. what are you missing? there is a bit of a storage limit by the browser above 5ish but that should be mostly not a problem, is it?
Proprietary KYC crap doesn't count. ESPECIALLY for multiple account use!
what KYC crap? you can add whatever you want (LND, NWC, CLN, …) also multiple times the same, it just needs to be a lightning wallet
Alby and WoS is KYC. Almost nobody, not even most bitcoiners run their own nodes. Theres no furture economy dependent on people running their own LN nodes. And you know it,
use the Alby extension first before and go troll somewhere else.
I've read the T and Cs, alby is not decentralized.
🕵️ no traditional entity is. read the code
the first think alby does is ask you to register with your email address. Might as well use paypal.
did you even use it? check out the individual tools. no signup is required. but I let you troll now. 👋
You need an email address. Yes I got that far and immediately stopped.
in the extension just connect any wallet you want. the hub you can also just install anywhere you want. IF you want an alby ACCOUNT then you need an email, but why would you want an account if you don’t want to provide such information?! just use it the way somebody would use it who does not want provide any data! many do.
Beacuse I dont want to run a node. You have 2 options: run a node yourself (too complex for most people) or create a custodial account : privacy issue/KYC Also - defeats purpose: I dont have to record tax for purchases on paypal, I do bitcoin. How then is lightnening better than paypal?
supposing running a lightning node was easy. I'll even let a maxi swear to me that they have the best turnkey solution ever and it'll blow me away. even still, a person who has his own node has to constantly top it off and rebalance it by doing L1 transactions to manage the channels. and there is only enough room on L1 for a small number of people to do that. there is a hard limit on how many people are able to use lightning without going through a custodian. the limit is smaller than the number of people in the world who want to use bitcoin without a custodian.
you can easily make as many email addresses as you want and just forward them to your main. No idea how some arbitrary email address is tantamount to KYC?
Sure, but what then is the necessity of demanding an email address in the first place? The very fact it is not optional is precisely why it is untrustworthy. Additionally, its pretty hard to anonymize an email address, but regardless of your ability to do so, being forced to try just so you can remain secure is a security flaw. One that Alby won't fix because it wants your identity and data.
Do I need to create a separate wallet/new Alby account to have a separate nostr account? I am very confused about this. Anyway, the switch should be easier. The extension icon should always show the active npub. It is quite hard to know which account I am giving permissions to.
Yes, I think they're tied to separate Lightning accounts, but anything else would make it even more confusing I guess. @bumi By the way, there's a small UI bug: when you switch accounts, it doesn't immediately update the npub that you can copy from the nostr icon...
I think the main confusion is because the extension always needs some sort of lightning "wallet" and that then can have a local key that is used for nostr. (and keys are only locally stored and a wallet is always some remote wallet) this means you can add the same wallet to the extension and use this same wallet with different keys. you don't need to create a different alby accounts or different wallets. @Râu Cao ⚡ I will pass it on.
Man... adding the same account multiple times is so weird. The account is added, but lots of error messages show up and there is no visual confirmation that you are adding the same stuff again. You just see a copy if the account in the menu. Also, it's very confusing when Alby creates a random nsec when loading an existing account. I would leave it empty.
Thanks for reporting, will be fixed in the next release of the extension!
No, you can connect the same one again and just set different Nostr keys for it in the settings
Very confusing, but it works. We just need to keep logging off and in everything we switch because clients don't notice the difference.
