#asknostr #amethyst #wallets Ok, i have a question about how to switch my wallet that i use for nostr. I have used NWC and alby wallet (with amethyst) ever since i started with nostr, so have never fiddled with it since. But now i want to test other wallets. Setting up a different receiving lightning address was straightforward, in my profile settings. But how do i set up that same lightning address to send also? Do i just "disconnect" amethyst from nwc, then try to connect another wallet? I know i must be missing something obvious.
I would love to hear some feedback on this question. nostr:nevent1qqst5329h4luvks0aj6jerhdk839k42jcapyptvum64k0f86qldpmmcppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qgsgm8ftw7fsae2wc0jxltmhfhwsg8dmfe92xkk50sp93p9zsmwkt7srqsqqqqqpljdw7r
Is the new wallet also NWC? If yes, you need to setup a new NWC string for the mew wallet. If not, there should be a wallet selector in the settings of Amethyst. Whenever you zap the wallet should open to allow you to pursue with the zap
Thanks😊
If the wallet supports NWC, it should give you a url to paste in the zap setup screen. Most wallets don't support it. If you want to pay by openning the app every time, just delete 3 fields for the NWC connection. You can always go back to Alby by pressing the little alby button close to those fields.
Ah, ok i'll try that. Thanks Vitor😊
I've done it by: - app switching for zap sending - NWC from nostr:nprofile1qqstxwlea9ah3u6kjjszu6a7lrnhqkfh8eptp2z6v0e9558tlkkl2rgpzemhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejz7qgwwaehxw309ahx7uewd3hkctcpremhxue69uhkummnw3ez6ur4vgh8wetvd3hhyer9wghxuet59u4kl3vp for send/receive - receiving to nostr:nprofile1qqst4qyeqenw7zm0fwjsty68h6cnys5jre2xd8ngqpjv5a2j26s78fsppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp049c5ke, Minibits, or npub.cash while sending from my nostr:nprofile1qqs9df4h2deu3aae83fmet5xmrlm4w5l9gdnsy3q2n7dklem7ezmwfcpz3mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduq5xamn8ghj7dnvv45xs7tywde8g6rpvakkjuekw46nvar4vdhxgan6wumkxatzwpckk6rk0puhjdm2da5k7ce5x4kkkumjx3jkzepwdahxjmmwqyt8wumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnwdaehgu3wd9hxvmckqw0xz NWC using my own node Everybody seems to really like nostr:nprofile1qqsyv47lazt9h6ycp2fsw270khje5egjgsrdkrupjg27u796g7f5k0spzemhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuurjd9kkzmpwdejhgqgjwaehxw309ac82unsd3jhqct89ejhxqgnwaehxw309aex2mrp09skymr99ehhyecusqvd6 Hub for this, also, but I haven't tried it yet. All these seem to work. Just have to pick your favorite flavor.
Do i need a minibits wallet or similar to use npub.cash?
It will let you receive zaps, but you'll still need to send from somewhere else, unless something has changed recently. Minibits has a similar function for receiving because you get an address to put in your profile. Mine is set up this way. It also supports NWC, so it's kind of a 1 stop shop. It's all custodial ecash, though. Make sure you're okay with that. Otherwise look at Start9 or Alby Hub.
So i was playing a little bit with minibits, using nwc. It seems to be delayed in showing transactions. I came back later and they showed up.
I believe you have to open the app to fully receive the transaction. Could be wrong. I don't know what the time limit is, if any. I haven't lost anything yet. On sending, sometimes Amethyst doesn't show the zap completing, but it's there on refresh. Clearing cache usually makes weirdness like that go away for me. Basically, I think it's all okay and normal, though.
Thank you, i might go with that setup, just for simplicity. You've been very helpful.😊
No problem, thanks for the zap! I have the node and all that, but I do like the simple zap setup. I like limiting the funds available to NWC, also. That's another that Alby Hub might solve. I need to fire that up just to have some experience with it.
have a look into Albyhub+phoenixd later - self-custody
I looked at alby hub, but it didnt work well on my laptop since it needed to be online all the time. A guy from alby replied and told me this.
ok understand - u have rely on custodial service or have old/minipc in linux online connected 24/7 internet since it will requirement for self-custody. i know bolt12 can handle offline LN - not explored in depth.
some python based wallets can be run on $20 pi zero in fact idk if albyhub can https://image.nostr.build/b179c528532d4d37a1dd025e16fac0caa0c8d0dd74e9ec8419ec2422b76fc173.png no need giant laptop
I just wish i were more techy. My tech skills are not the best.
Umbrel makes a the Umbrel Home which is a "complete" home-server that is centered around bitcoind/lightning. It's still an early product but seems to work well enough, at least to the point it may be the best one-click setup I've seen in a long time
Any recommendations for desktop/server apps? I have yet to find any. I was hoping for a straightforward desktop app but that doesn't seem to exist, and likely most LN apps don't index well in search results. The GH awesome list is super outdated and mostly abandonware :/ Currently hoping to get a proper BTC node up along with cln
