 @f1c6c5c3 Someone described Mastodon as "social networking for people who have a preferred Linux distribution" and for people who don't fall into that descriptor, it remains really, really inaccessible. Even if they actively want to NOT use Twitter anymore because of what it's become, they still NEED to use it because it fills gaps Mastodon won't or can't (largely because of the benign network effect of getting libraries, meteorologists, municipalities, etc. to move collectively)

I wish I could cite who described Mastodon in that way, but... you can't search for something like that. :/ 
 @69383c1b In fact, if you call it Mastodon, you get people "correcting" you that you should say "fediverse" in exactly the "I believe you mean GNU/Linux" tone.
