Finally got around to replacing my third or fourth ceased, new OEM caliper since I've owned the thing. They don't make OEM parts like the used to. At some point I told our customers just to leave or rebuild what they have on the vehicles if it's more than 20 years old because the mfg new components are worse quality than the originals. (depends on the component of course) These performance pads have less than 15k miles on them. The other side has about 3/4 pad left. It was an intermittent issue which is why it got this bad. And yes at some point it got so hot it boiled the new grease from the slide pins and wore the inner pad down. https://www.vaughnnugent.com/public//resources/downloads/cms/c/4t5ipzrv5swcqeyornh44bwxjq.webp https://www.vaughnnugent.com/public//resources/downloads/cms/c/dqdaqzkrchcgaif2kkqyacnska.webp
Geez. What car?
Yup. 99 F250
Yech. This is one reason why I want to have a lathe and mill in a shop. I can rebuild stuff better than new in a lot of cases. So dumb.
Oh my reply didn't post. Yeah same here. My truck needs a lot of work to feel good driving more than around town. To do all the work I need a high roof. Engine has to come out to repair a few things including an oil pan. I can't justify the cost of new diesel pickups and I've already sunk so much money into this thing I'd like to fix it completely some day. Still looking for a daily driver economy car but still trying to save money. But that's slightly higher on the list so I can do bit of traveling without having to rent or borrow a car. I enjoy working on big things, medium duty and infrequent heavy duty equipment is where it started for me sort of. So saving up for some property large and cheap enough to put a shop up is priority.
I totally get that. You could literally use a tree to pull the engine. You could also just do it in your driveway. I've done that before. You just need to be organized and have everything ready to go. A cheap beater really is a great thing to have.
> You could literally use a tree to pull the engine. You could also just do it in your driveway. I've done that before. You just need to be organized and have everything ready to go. Tis true. There really just isn't the space. The driveway is too steep to do anything on. I have friends that would let me borrow space but i like to take my time working on things and they want to get it done in a weekend and that's just not happening. I know what it takes to work on this beast. Everything needs a big hammer, a torch, and a lot of patience. > A cheap beater really is a great thing to have. A beater with a heater! I have 3 cars on insurance and only 1 that's not in storage so I've been avoiding the extra insurance cause too.
Use the BRSD pads not BRs they are cheap
I had a brake line that acted like a onw-way valve once. Brakes got really hot and cracked the rotor.
Ford truck rear brakes are a blast to replace calipers every year. Cheaper than transmissions though.
Lol. Yeah rear isn't that bad, but this was the first rear to fail... I already rebuilt the transmission back in 2016 I think. Wow can't believe it's been that long. I took me almost 2 months in the middle of winter (Dec-feb) and like 3k in parts because I messed it up the first time (most people do but it still sucked). I pulled an all nighter to get it re-installed after the build and it started snowing on me XD
