Yech. This is one reason why I want to have a lathe and mill in a shop. I can rebuild stuff better than new in a lot of cases. So dumb.
Oh my reply didn't post. Yeah same here. My truck needs a lot of work to feel good driving more than around town. To do all the work I need a high roof. Engine has to come out to repair a few things including an oil pan. I can't justify the cost of new diesel pickups and I've already sunk so much money into this thing I'd like to fix it completely some day. Still looking for a daily driver economy car but still trying to save money. But that's slightly higher on the list so I can do bit of traveling without having to rent or borrow a car. I enjoy working on big things, medium duty and infrequent heavy duty equipment is where it started for me sort of. So saving up for some property large and cheap enough to put a shop up is priority.
I totally get that. You could literally use a tree to pull the engine. You could also just do it in your driveway. I've done that before. You just need to be organized and have everything ready to go. A cheap beater really is a great thing to have.
> You could literally use a tree to pull the engine. You could also just do it in your driveway. I've done that before. You just need to be organized and have everything ready to go. Tis true. There really just isn't the space. The driveway is too steep to do anything on. I have friends that would let me borrow space but i like to take my time working on things and they want to get it done in a weekend and that's just not happening. I know what it takes to work on this beast. Everything needs a big hammer, a torch, and a lot of patience. > A cheap beater really is a great thing to have. A beater with a heater! I have 3 cars on insurance and only 1 that's not in storage so I've been avoiding the extra insurance cause too.
