My end game for nostr is this exact scenario, in which case the wider network might be kept intact using radio or reticulum or whatnot, but my eye is on my local community. I plan to make nostr work only via LAN to support a gossip network for my local social network to keep local trade and action intact.
Who should I bring on TGFN to talk about making a parallel no kyc internet? Preferably with action items for plebs.

@Ben Arc might have something to say about it. I think he also experimented with mesh stuff for nostr

https://github.com/lnbits/nostrmesh
Yeah that's all stuff we have talked about, using Nostr for mesh. Happy to come on show
this can be local EVENT wifi mesh
once on internet still depend DNS n clearnet
Local, I imagined controllers connected over wifi or ble. Espmdf does this and it's sick. Controllers can be both clients and relays, and map the network using gossip.
Yeah, let's do it, ping me if I don't get in touch the week after nostrasia
I can confirm radios are pretty cool
Working on a HF ham radio client as we speak.
Wonder if you've considered integrating JS8call?
No, as they are closed source ans no real api.

I am currently using FLDigi, and will have lots of bandwidth, band, and mode types for HF and VHF.

For now, it will need to be a client setup and a server setup. Ideally in the future many servers, like winlink.
Is there a recommended post or page you have about FLDigi where I could best learn more (incl recommended gear and your thoughts on how to link w/ bitcoin / nostr)? What are protocols for use?
Unfortunately not much. There are a few youtube videos if you search fldigi.

Their documentation is the best, pretty technical though.

You need hf or vhf radio(s) with data modes, or sound card adapters. Check out youtibe for ham radio data modes.

There is no tie into bitcoin and nostr, other than data, albeit slow, can be send. And with data you can send and rx whatever you want.
You can use a digilink as the adapter & they sell various cables for different radios.
Tech Prepper did a series on digital modes
KM4ACK has some useful tips & below is a walkthrough from KO4CEQ on setup

I have 2 digirigs, fantastic and portable device.
Check out armaloq frames for radios. Great if you're looking to build a portable rig

#nostr npubs could be used as identifiers that help private tx via radio. Thanks you've reactivated my hyper-fixation on making radio and bitcoin infrastructure.
 OVERLAP THOUGHTS:

Not radio, but television - ISDB-T /
(at this point, I think they are shifting to ISDB-T International/SBTVD (ISDB-Tb)) is used by El Salvador (a friendly jurisdiction), but is also used by a number of unfriendly jurisdictions as noted below - Brazil and Venezuela to name a couple. But it covers a lot of ground (countries in Central / South America, countries in Africa, some Asian countries). My thinking on this is that television is not as viable (because of the migration plans to different standards) but that radio and satellite (combination of the two) are viable.

The original TxTenna product / mesh product is perpetually sold out / unavailable, a different build (involving something we put together ourselves) to make the radio would be needed here. Some code referring to this functionality is at: https://github.com/MuleTools/txTenna
Fuck yeah mate, thanks for that. Now to scrounge for diagrams & blueprints
Probably the one remaining piece is for me to get MyNode (the most expensive one I can bear) https://mynodebtc.com/products/compare since some of the features will cause the US gov to probably send letters to developers early next year saying "you can't sell this to US persons anymore" kicking off a years long litigation / battle. Not like I haven't run a node before, I have, but I'd like to have all the features shown in one thing and not have them chopped out because of "the fear next year." (There's a Community Edition MyNode available for free, but the advanced privacy features on that will be targeted by US gov next year too after the federal gov's new rule take effect, that's when the war will really get serious and those who want to stay in this game will have their will tested, it's really going to be time to say Fuck No, to the hard-headed asshats in Congress, White House and the Fed.) I also already ordered the special edition bitcoin-only Trezor (it's since sold out so I lucked out on that one).

Time to get busy I guess. No-one said this was supposed to be easy. (It has been relatively simple for years if you ask me, but with the fed AND state governments targeting it, that isn't going to drive me away, it'll just make me more interested in the technology, and in finding places that are more welcoming to me.)
I see we hang out on the same watchlists.

If you haven't already heard of this (I had missed it somehow), check this interesting little thing out...

it must be the tiniest little communicator on the planet that allows you to text that doesn't require cell service.... (other than maybe Zoleo, which I have, which is useful on wilderness trips, but rather limited in functionality)

http://www.picoaprs.de/index_en.php

And it's actually being made and sold (see the list of websites where it is for sale shown in a top link at the site above).

YT coverage on this tiny thing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4dKzOXvhGA

You will, it seems, need a ham radio license to use it meaningfully

Very interesting though.
 Appreciate it mate.
 Wow, thanks!
Happy to add a few little thoughts
 Thank you
I am looking at VaraC however as well. Mine is python. Once the bones are done on the server, client, and the web interace(flask), the client and server are theoretically adaptable to other software and protocol. Not sure for sure though.
This is the way! #Nostr is perfect for small communities, when I think of Hoppe’s “1,000 Lichtensteins” I envision a digital version of this on nostr where local real world communities can bring trade, announcements, community coordination etc into a small sovereign space outside of big tech and governments
Sounds healthy and cool, best of luck!
I'll be spending my free time building directional wifi antennas like a yagi or helical antenna. I want jpgs and movies. Batman-adv or a traditional mesh + directional wifi antennas and you can get pretty capable speeds at range (just be sure to download some necessary files or instructions ahead of time) otherwise youre SOL https://n-o-d-e.net/zine/index.html# n-o-d-e is a good resource dump
