You wouldn't walk around carrying hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash on you. Yet a ton of you are walking around with that much Bitcoin readily accessible. This is a danger not only to yourself, but to the rest of us. We must stop teaching criminals that wrench attacks against Bitcoiners have an insanely high ROI!
And for that amount, multisig with signing devices in different places can become an option...
Multisig fixes this! nostr:nevent1qqsv959vs2eupy4z66f0texkq2ctmgj3rhxjm25dvqsn9e4lflqawwspr9mhxue69uhhqatjv9mxjerp9ehx7um5wghxcctwvspzpaegm8nwwpyrtrnsjv84efjtp9mhpkvfenvxs487vx8d48y28qgxqvzqqqqqqy387gna
If someone tries to rob me we'd have to get on an airplane together to grab one of my signers
We'd have to go back to my place where the seed is... And guns.
Won't work if they have you in handcuffs and/or there are a bunch of them.
Agreed! Small amount in a hot wallet on my mobile the rest is cold 🥶 and far from me.
We need more OPSEC education
Two things for would-be robbers to know: 1. I can’t give it to you anyway so don’t try me. 2. I’m taking lives if you do decide to try me.
Everyone says that until they get hit in the back of the head with a wrench. Theres no stopping it. You get knocked out, relocated and disarmed, then information needed to access your bitcoin is extracted from you. No ones coming to rob your Bitcoin from you by challenging you to a fair 1v1 duel.
What’s your solution? I’m curious.
Doesn’t collaborative custody make your sats KYC?
Depends on who you collaborate with. nostr:nprofile1qqsvwcwuwcwmucx3s7dfs54m49h7uclw4vxh8ygu25m9chk0ypy5ngspz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhsnv258z doesn't perform KYC and we offer guides for how to use our service while retaining strong privacy.
Does casa need ID, address, ssn, etc?
Absolutely not.
Doesn't do KYC.. Yet. Sorry had to. As someone who's had their door kicked in by the feds (well not my door but the previous company I was part of) if they want you to comply you comply, it's just a matter of time. No one wants to risk losing their family or their life for some silly regulations, and I don't blame them.
What company were you part of?
I was in the aftermarket automotive field, vs the EPA. I was asked not to share the details, but it's all public knowledge. This was what happened to a company adjacent to us. They were far less justified and therefor were hit with criminal charges. We were lucky enough to only have a civil case brought against us. At any time that could have changed though. https://www.justice.gov/usao-ak/pr/co-owners-arm-rippin-toys-plead-guilty-clean-air-act-violation
This is about cars not Bitcoin. I’m not saying feds won’t go after casa but what are they going after them for? If all they do is hold one key, they’re not considered custodians. But even if they do that, you at least still have your other keys. Doing multisig on your own is better for sure but doing single sig is riskier imo.
To the feds, I think bitcoin is way worse than the automotive field, happy to be wrong, but suits care way more about protecting their money than they do modified cars. What I'm arguing is that the feds are a mafia, they make up rules as they go along to do whatever they want. Were were told "We don't want people like you in business" over a phone call. The constitution means nothing to them, unless you have deep pockets, find good federal judges, have really good lawyers, and a few years worth of time to take them on in court. In that meantime you operating funds will be seized, any computers/equipment usually gets taken, the IRS usually shows up for an audit of you business, your personal finances, and your family finances. Do you think they just want to beat up car people? Gun guys have it way worse.
I agree they are a mafia and I see your points. It can happen and I would plan for that if I did use casa. But if feds do kick down their doors, you still have your two keys and casa can’t force you to KYC if they don’t have your info. I imagine this structure was intentional.
On the lite end, Blockstream Green, too...
Have 0.3 on a hot wallet on phone plus carry 2 pistols daily to protect it. Come at me! https://image.nostr.build/10549df9828eb6c3c9ed85c4c9f193cfe7fdf0168ff7a10487dfbaf8fd3a0072.jpg

Lock and load man!
