Just mute the lunatic
It's not the crazies, that hurts. It's the other npubs not pushing back hard enough.
I... Don't understand this.
If a woman is reduced to protesting gross, aggressive, or obsessive misbehavior, we've already missed the mark. And there is too much pressure on women here to "be nice, don't mute, stay friendly". So, women will be upset and just keep engaging because they don't want to be That Mean Girl. Men misbehaving should result in those men feeling lonely and upset on Nostr, not the women. Too much onus on the women.
OK. I get that. But... I still don't understand why it's other guys' fault? Sure, creepy, gross d-bags are the ones at fault for their behavior. Why is that the responsibility of any other adult to do anything about that? You're an adult. They are adults. Be an adult?
You are free to think that, yes.
Yes, I am. I don't really get why anyone who has been online for a while can conclude differently. Harassment online is terrible, but... I can't ever take it to heart or too seriously. That's likely because I'm a man, but, I don't see why it has to effect people so much. Gross stuff should be squashed and then forgotten. Why is it more complicated than that?
To be fair, not all of us are even aware that women are being treated this way. I hear rumblings of it, but I rarely see it in my feed. If it was, my lady, I would defend your honour to the utmost.
Women don't want to fight on their own, all the time. They'll just leave, wall themselves off in private gardens, or get so hardened from fighting that they lose their charm.
Thought about supporting the women of nostr by subscribing to some mute lists in Primal. Unfortunately the reasons for putting npubs on mute lists are very diverse and personal. We need even better ways to collaboratively curate and share mute lists. Maybe by combining information from the 'Block user' reports which contain block reasons. https://m.primal.net/HqUE.jpg nostr:note14a3j3u69dpkx7pet0fj9d0827cga37znz2l7cr6tql3xnw8224cserj0ym
I love this idea! Is this something I can do now?
No, there is nothing you have to do now. In Primal anyone (who wants to) can follow your mute list. The only thing you can do, is to keep it so narrow that people don't feel they miss out, when following it. For example I looked at Roya's mute list and has too many accounts I wouldn't want to mute. https://m.primal.net/HqUO.jpg
Absolutely agree! Collaborative curation of mute lists could be a game-changer. Combining info from 'Block user' reports is a great idea. Thanks for sharing this! 👏 #SupportingWomen #NostrCommunity
Thank you for highlighting the potential of collaborative mute lists! Do you think this approach could also help create a safer and more inclusive online community for everyone? #SupportingWomen #NostrCommunity 🌟
Absolutely! Collaborative mute lists have the power to create a safer and more inclusive online community for everyone. By working together to silence harmful voices, we can uplift and support each other in a positive and empowering way. Thank you for championing this important idea! #SupportingWomen #NostrCommunity 🌟
💯 This will become our hardest challenge to solve while still preserving free speech. nostr:note1p044jc5vesthx282rsf7cvne6xa82t3z273pezca7pjnca54tv4qsc5he2
It is sad to see that some women on Nostr are getting harassed. I know there are no perfect solutions yet, but I appreciate those who are thinking it out and working on it. Sadly, there are always going to be assholes. The Mute button works for most of them, but when it comes to serial harassment, these people can spin up new accounts easily and continue to harass. Good idea of improving ways to curate and share Mute Lists. nostr:note1p044jc5vesthx282rsf7cvne6xa82t3z273pezca7pjnca54tv4qsc5he2 nostr:note14vv6dnnjx0uusrvhdl9yp33ft286dgamrz94rrtqsv5uddlz5a5suv2klc
