I think we need to update clients so you don’t see a ton of copies of a repost when a lot of people repost the same thing.
Could you aggregate the reposts from your follow list much like the “Likes” get aggregated in your notifications? #asknostr
Exactly. Show it once showing it has been reposted n times by x, y, and z people.
It would let the user still see how valuable it was in their circle without cluttering the feed.
this is a great idea, because on twitter/x a vast amount of time is wasted like this so people think they're getting attention when they're in fact just wasting their time, that's why i think they allow the bots and trolls because their model is based on you using twitter/x over all other apps. rather that a hardcore focus on free speech which alone solves many real world problems also have you thought of allowing people to pay to promote posts? and allowing people to filter out paid promoted posts if they want to? or maybe something where you pay only when someone reposts so the community decides if your ad is worth others seeing? so pay to create an ad then have a catalog of ads you can chose to repost to earn but you limit how much one user can see the ad so you don't endlessly see the same ad. also you could test for human interaction so money only changes hands to verified humans or accounts with zap balances, there is lots you can do like this in my opinion
npub15udps0gkavgwqjm3tljxqmfcaqtgd95dh3h072msy5pkjefasahsp9qgd3 Some nostr clients do highlight posts based on how many zaps they’ve received. Which is a kind of paid promotion.
i'm specifically thinking to invite the community to do the ad filtering, so you can make money by choosing to promote products that seem legit, of real value. for example one of my partners builds these very cool solar/battery/inverter systems that use upcycled ev batteries, i'd be happy to pay to get a video in front of people who have a genuine interest. if someone takes ten mins to look at my posts it's obvious i'm real and they could even reach out to me to check, see where i'm going with this? a pay-per-actual-interested-person-that-has-really-engaged-with-your-ad model must be possible here instead of this insane fiat money like "impressions" model which is just a we're-stealing-all-your-money-pretending-to-show-this-to people model
It does get a bit repetitive.
It can. It's the nature of a protocol with no algorithims. I think peposting helps people outside of our bubble, on global and in different time zones find good notes and accounts to follow. I see it as a necessary evil. Choice is good UX so maybe a tap to "filter similar posts" would be a happy medium 🤔
