💯 privacy tools are extremely important when it comes to protecting kids & families, & govt bureaucracies are highly attractive to the sort of psychopaths people need to be protected from. Best thing we can do is build better privacy tools, better webs of trust, & teach kids how to navigate safely through dangerous waters.
I am raising my kids to be aware of this. They have DeGoogled locked down kid phones, connected to our family Nextcloud online ecosystem, with next to no Big Tech on them. We do give them some church and school apps (Canvas, Team Snap, etc.) from the Aurora "playstore", and Be Real. That's it. Everything else is open source privacy apps. I banned Discord that the cheer team decided to use. There are too many gamer pervs on Discord.
Great video Eliza! Love this type of "medium-long" videos, keep em coming! On the topic of #CSAM and #ChatControl: Protecting kids, both IRL and online, is extremely important. However, attacking normal people's right to privacy to combat CSAM production and distribution is not the way to go. These abusers have the same access as everyone else to actual E2EE tools so the EU's ChatControl measure will most likely have minor to no results. Best case, they'll get the most stupid pedos out there. My most optimistic view on #ChatControl is that policians are sold on the idea that if we take a peak at what everyone is sending to eachother, we'll get the pedos. That is obviously not the case because they'd have to force that into any single software in the world (which they don't have the authority, nor time or money, to do). My more realistic (pessimistic) view is that this is a part of a bigger push to increase population surveillance and control by the #EU.
You don't. Full stop. That's it. Any argument for that is couched on trampling others' rights. I don't care if it's "for the children," I will not suffer my rights to be violated, and in so violating them, you violate any chance for my children to have a private future. It must stop now.
