i idly looked at options at a nearby appliance/furniture store and spotted a super simple one that just had a timer dial and a couple of mode switches and that was it, no brains, no pain, plus it was the quietest rated at 64dB which i figure is pretty dang quiet for a washing machine

honestly, i've got in my mind how to live without one of these abominations... 30 minutes peddling a bicycle doesn't seem like too much to ask for an every other day routine, so all i need to do is find a machine i can hook up the hub to a bicycle and done

or alternatively it could be driven mechanically by water in an up-hill creek running downhill, i mean, how had a modern simple water wheel with a clutch and a washing machine barrel... just need the damn top loader, these side loaders the rubber is gonna be fucked after 6 years so, can't have that if the worst case of 20 years no electricity happens
I agree. I live in clothes-line country. Not sure if that’s an option for you as well. Bath towels feel like they’re more absorbent after hanging them outside.

I’ve thought about getting a laundromat grade washer and dryer as well. Some of those seem to last forever.
 i am lost honestly
seriously so lost i want to die
I don’t know what your country is, but if you have laundromats, maybe look into where they get their gear. They still make those basic, tough-as-hell models, they just don’t market them to consumers anymore.
 IDK WHAT TO SAY

THERE IS LAUNDRY IN MANY PLACES BUT NOT HERE IN OUTER NORTHERN MADEIRA
When I was younger I thought seeing clothes hanging on lines was associated with poor people in slums. But once I got older and didn't care what people thought of me, I took to hanging my clothes out to dry because it is cheaper. The clothes aren't as soft but they last longer.
Just tell them you’re living green. That’s all the rage, will make you look sophisticated.

Then on Nostr just tell everyone it was stealing juice from your miners.

Problem solved.
A cup of vinegar in your rinse cycle will substitute for fabric softener.
